【观看岛屿】第四站，我们来到新纪元大学学院。这一场分享，从纪录片《海面上的光》开始，也从一个关于“岛屿的流变与恒久”的提问展开。
导演陈子韩分享，纪录片以“光”为核心意象。对渔民而言，光是方向、是生计，也是回家的路；但对鱼群来说，光却可能是诱惑，最终走向渔网。这样的矛盾不仅存在于海上，也存在于人的生命里——我们追寻的那道光，究竟是带领我们回家，还是将我们引向别的地方？
《PULAU：岛屿现代性的田野笔记》作者梁馨元则从人文观察切入，谈吉灵丸码头的变迁、岛民生活空间的转变、移民流动、过度捕捞，以及人与自然之间不断拉扯的关系，而发展最终惠及谁，又牺牲了什么，往往没有简单的答案。
最精彩的部分，莫过于分享与对谈之间的来回碰撞。导演、作者与与谈人们从各自的经验出发，不断补充、回应与延伸。现场时而认真思辨，时而轻松欢笑，关于岛屿、发展、生态与记忆的话题，在交流中慢慢展开，也让我们再次看见，一座岛屿不只是一个地点，而是无数人与故事共同编织的地方记忆。

【Ways of Seeing an Island - School Tour · 4th stop】brought us to New Era University College.
The session began with a screening of The Light on the Sea and a conversation around change and continuity in island life.
Director Tan Choo Harn shared how “light” became the film’s central metaphor — a source of guidance and livelihood for fishermen, yet also a lure that draws fish towards their fate. Through this duality, the film reflects on the choices and contradictions that shape both island life and our own journeys.
Author Leong Xin Yuan, meanwhile, explored the island through a human-centred lens, touching on the transformation of jetties, migration, overfishing, and the shifting relationship between people and nature. Her reflections raised questions about development, belonging, and who ultimately benefits from change.
What made the afternoon especially memorable was the lively dialogue that followed. Ideas flowed between the speakers and audiences, opening up conversations on islands, ecology, memory, and place. Together, they reminded us that an island is more than a location — it is a landscape of shared stories and collective memory.
