**HONOUR OUR VETERANS — GUARDIANS OF MALAYSIA’S PEACE AND PROSPERITY**
**To our Fellow Malaysians,**
*Salam Sejahtera dan Salam Malaysia Bahagia,*
Today, we humbly call upon every citizen to join us in recognising and honoring the bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering loyalty of **Malaysia’s veterans**—the heroes who defended our nation during its most turbulent times. From the dark days of the Communist insurgency to the Confrontation with Indonesia, these men and women stood firm in their duty to protect *King and Country*, paving the way for the peace and prosperity we enjoy today.
**Why Their Sacrifice Matters**
In the 1950s and 1960s, our young nation faced existential threats. Communist insurgents sought to destabilize our society, while the Confrontation with Indonesia tested our sovereignty. It was our veterans—soldiers, police, and volunteers—who answered the call. They fought in dense jungles, endured unimaginable hardships, and risked their lives so that future generations could inherit a Malaysia united, secure, and free. Their courage did not just end wars; it laid the foundation for our nation’s progress.
**The Legacy They Built**
Because of their sacrifices:
- **Communist threats were quelled**, allowing Malaysia to focus on development and unity.
- **Sovereignty was preserved** during Confrontation, ensuring our place as a respected nation.
- **Peace prevailed**, enabling economic growth, multicultural harmony, and the rise of a modern Malaysia.
Yet, many veterans now live in quiet humility, their stories are fading from public memory. It is our duty to ensure their contributions are never forgotten.
**How You Can Honour Them**
1. **Say “Terima Kasih”**: A simple thank you to a veteran—or their family—acknowledges their service.
2. **Attend Commemorative Events**: Join National Veterans Day , Merdeka parades, or *Hari Pahlawan* ceremonies to stand in solidarity.
3. **Read Their Stories**: Purchase a copy of our MEMOIR ie MoV1 or MoV2, get firsthand accounts on the sacrifices during their service life.
4. **Support Veteran Welfare**: Donate to organizations like the Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans Association MACVA or Kennan Tabung Pahlawan, a yearly program advocating veterans affairs and livelihoods.
5. **Educate the Next Generation**:
Teach children about the Emergency and Confrontation eras. Highlight how veterans’ sacrifices shaped Malaysia’s destiny.
**A Call for Unity and Gratitude**
As *Tun Abdul Razak Hussein* once said, *“The strength of Malaysia lies in the spirit of its people, forged through trials and sacrifice.”* Let us honor that spirit by remembering those who bore the heaviest burdens. Their loyalty to *Agong dan Negara* was not just service—it was love for Malaysia.
**Closing**
To every veteran who served during the Emergency and Confrontation: Your courage is our heritage. Your sacrifices are the bedrock of our nation. *Kami menghargai jasa anda.*
Let us unite as Malaysians to celebrate these guardians of our freedom. By honoring them, we honor the very essence of our national identity.
*Terima Kasih, Para Veteran. Jasamu Dikenang, Jasa Kami Sepanjang Zaman.*
With deepest respect,
