How do we create events and exhibitions where more people can participate, contribute, and have a positive experience?
This week, leaders from Informa Markets Malaysia came together for Leading Inclusive Experiences in Events & Exhibitions, a 1.5-day workshop exploring inclusion, accessibility, communication, and customer experience across the event journey.
Through practical discussions and real-world scenarios, the team examined how people experience workplaces and events differently. From neurodiversity and hidden disabilities to communication preferences, digital accessibility, and event operations, the workshop challenged us to think more intentionally about the environments we create for colleagues, customers, exhibitors, speakers, and attendees.
One key takeaway was that accessibility is not only about disability. Everyone has different conditions that help them participate, engage, and perform at their best. By understanding these differences, we can design experiences that reduce friction, improve participation, and create a stronger sense of belonging for a wider range of people.
The programme also explored how inclusive practices can be embedded across the end-to-end event experience, from marketing and registration through to onsite communications, content delivery, crisis management, and customer support.
A special thank you to Beatrice Leong for facilitating thoughtful and practical conversations that encouraged us to look beyond assumptions and focus on the real experiences of the people we serve.
As organisers of industry-leading events, we recognise that inclusion is not a standalone initiative. It is part of delivering better experiences, better engagement, and better outcomes for our customers and communities.
