Racematix has just launched a brand-new version of the platform and TMBT 2026 will be the first race open for registrations under the new platform. We think it is a greatly improved platform with greater flexibility, but there may obviously be some getting used to the new environment and also a risk of some teething problems to resolve in the beginning. We do apologize for any inconvenience caused in this respect and appreciate feedback on any issues encountered or suggestions for improvements that we can pass on to Racematix. Borneo Ultra-Trail Marathon 2026: Celebrating Ten Years of Adventure.

Register for the BUTM before 1st March 2026 to secure your complimentary Anniversary Gift. We are delighted to unveil this special gift for all participants in the 100 km, 50 km, and 30 km categories who sign up before the deadline: a lightweight, hooded running jacket. Designed for comfort in rainy conditions, it is water-repellent and meets the standards required as part of the compulsory equipment for our events.

For the 9 km event, participants will be presented with a premium lightweight, breathable running cap designed to maximize comfort. The official design will be unveiled in the near future.

The Borneo Ultra-Trail Marathon (BUTM) is one of South-East Asia’s top trail races. Organised by Borneo Ultra Trails who also organise the iconic TMBT Ultra-Trail Marathon, the BUTM offers trail-runners of all abilities a journey through Sabah’s Kiulu Valley.

The trails take you over the hills and vales in the Kiulu Valley, the valley of a hundred bridges. It takes you over crystal-clear mountain rivers, bubbling mountain streams and through idyllic native villages located in North Borneo's Crocker Range. If you love nature and enjoy being out in the outdoors, if you are reasonably fit and like to run, then the BUTM may just be the thing for you. We offer four distance categories: 9km, 30km, 50km and 100km.

Calling all Elite Malaysian Runners

Would you like a chance to represent Malaysia at the South East Asia Trail Running Cup (SEATRC CUP) 2026?

We are happy to announce that Borneo Ultra Trail Marathon (BUTM) 2026 has been appointed by the Malaysia Ultra Running Association (MURA) to be one of three selection races for runners representing Malaysia at the SEATRC CUP 2026.

The SEATRC CUP 2026 will be hosted by Jakarta Open Trail Run (JOTR) at Mount Gede Pangrango, Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia, from 23–26 July 2026. Please refer to https://seatrc.jakartaopentrailrun.com/ for event details.

The SEATRC CUP brings together up to 300 competitors from 10 participating countries to battle it out for the championship in 5 different categories:

• Long Trail of 75 km and 5,573 m elevation gain
• Short Trail of 42 km and 4,272 m elevation gain
• Mountain Classic of 10 km and 590 m elevation gain
• Mountain Classic Junior of 10 km and 590 m elevation gain
• Mountain Uphill of 5 km and 1,117 m elevation gain

Malaysia Ultra Running Association (MURA) as the national body for Malaysia is responsible for the Malaysia team selection with up to 3 athletes of each gender taking part in each race category. Please refer to https://www.facebook.com/malaysiaultrarunningassociation/ for the selection criteria and policy established by MURA.

As one of 3 selection races for the Malaysian National team, the following has been mandated by MURA as per the established selection policy:

• The first male and female Malaysian finishers of the BUTM 100 km will be offered a slot in SEATRC Long Trail category.
• The first male and female Malaysian finishers of the BUTM 50 km will be offered a slot in the SEATRC Short Trail category.
• The first male and female Malaysian finishers of the BUTM 9 km will be offered a slot for the SEATRC Mountain Classic Category.
• The first male and female Junior Malaysian finishers of the BUTM 9 km will be offered a slot for the SEATRC Mountain Classic Junior.
The Junior category has to be aged between 15 and 23 years old on 31st December 2026. For all other categories athletes must be 18 years or above on 31st December 2026.

If the first qualifier declines the spot on the team, the second qualified finisher is offered the slot. If the second placed qualifier also declines the spot, it is offered to the third placed qualifier.

We are happy and excited to work closely with MURA for the selection for SEATRC 2026 and remind prospective competitors of the following dates:

• BUTM 100 km and BUTM 50 km: Race start on Saturday 11th April 2026 at 6 am.
• BUTM 9 km: Race start on Sunday 12th April 2026 at 7 am.

We wish to state that all standard race rules and criteria for the BUTM apply, so please take extra care to adhere to all rules and regulations including the compulsory equipment to avoid any disappointment.
