Today we share the photograph chosen by Alina, from Tijuana, Baja California, and the story that accompanies it:
“This is a photo of my nana. She basically raised me because my mom worked; she is, along with my mom, one of the strongest people I know. She is 80 years old now and has Alzheimer’s. I am 18 and, for reasons that life has brought about, I spend more time with her, so I experience more closely her loss of herself. I am very afraid of losing her, and it breaks my heart to see how, as the years go by, that strong woman who watched me grow is slowly fading away. I also took this photo because she hardly ever smiles; in fact, it is the only photo I have of her smiling like this.”
