HoLA Renovation Update
We’ve made a lot of progress at HoLA over the past couple of weeks, and the changes are really starting to come together.
The additional A/C units are installed, with the remaining electrical work to support them is scheduled to be finished this weekend. Our new hallway and library are complete, and the space formerly known as the art studio has been enclosed and outfitted with several new shelves.
In the kitchen, the new “wet wall” is nearly finished. The hot water heater, new counter and shelving are all in place — now we’re just waiting for the dishwasher to arrive and be installed.
We’ve also demolished the old platform near the kitchen and tiled over that area. Work on our new storage room in that space is next.
At the side entrance, our new welcome desk should be completed by the end of the weekend. We’re also awaiting quotes for a new entrance door that will eventually allow us to add automatic access control reducing/eliminating the need for volunteers to carry keys!
So… when are we reopening?
While it’s possible all of the work except the dishwasher install may be done by the end of the weekend we will still need some time to clean and reset the entire space. Rather than frantically putting everything back together just to reopen as quickly as possible, we’ve decided to take a little more time and do it right — organize the new spaces, figure out where things actually belong, clean everything thoroughly, and make sure HoLA is ready to welcome everyone back properly.
I’m also apparently coming down with something cold/flu like just in time to arrive back in Mazatlán which may slow the final push a bit. 🙄
So… We will re-open Monday September 7.
I’ll post soon for volunteers who are able to help put things back together once we are able to.

**Actualización sobre la remodelación de HoLA**
Hemos avanzado muchísimo en HoLA durante las últimas semanas, y los cambios ya están empezando a tomar forma.
Las unidades adicionales de aire acondicionado ya están instaladas, y el trabajo eléctrico que falta para ponerlas en funcionamiento está programado para terminarse este fin de semana. Nuestro nuevo pasillo y la biblioteca ya están listos, y el espacio que antes conocíamos como el estudio de arte quedó cerrado y equipado con varios estantes nuevos.
En la cocina, la nueva “pared húmeda” está casi terminada. El calentador de agua, la nueva barra y los estantes ya están instalados; ahora solo estamos esperando que llegue el lavavajillas para instalarlo.
También demolimos la antigua plataforma cerca de la cocina y colocamos piso en esa área. Lo siguiente será trabajar en nuestro nuevo espacio de almacenamiento ahí mismo.
En la entrada lateral, nuestro nuevo mostrador de bienvenida deberá quedar terminado para finales de este fin de semana. También estamos esperando cotizaciones para una nueva puerta de entrada que, eventualmente, nos permitirá instalar un sistema de acceso automático y así reducir —o incluso eliminar— la necesidad de que los voluntarios tengan que cargar llaves.
Entonces… ¿cuándo reabrimos?
Aunque es posible que para finales de este fin de semana todo el trabajo esté terminado, con excepción de la instalación del lavavajillas, todavía necesitaremos algo de tiempo para limpiar y volver a organizar todo el espacio.
En lugar de tratar de acomodar todo a las carreras solo para abrir lo antes posible, decidimos tomarnos un poco más de tiempo y hacerlo bien: organizar los nuevos espacios, decidir dónde debe ir realmente cada cosa, limpiar todo a fondo y asegurarnos de que HoLA esté listo para recibirlos como se debe.
Y, aparentemente, justo a tiempo para regresar a Mazatlán, me estoy enfermando de algo tipo resfriado o gripe, lo cual podría hacer que el último esfuerzo vaya un poquito más lento. 🙄
Así que… **¡reabriremos el lunes 7 de septiembre!**
Muy pronto publicaré un mensaje para pedir ayuda a los voluntarios que puedan echarnos una mano para volver a poner todo en orden, en cuanto estemos listos para hacerlo.
