September 2026
Special Notice

Saludos, greetings! We previously announced that we were forced to close during September for repairs on the roof. Now to provide an update!

Our landlady went with her handyman up on the roof to conduct an inspection and they found where the leaks were. Her handyman has completed work to rain proof the areas over the theater and the bathrooms that were most affected. More work will continue on other areas. Our landlady - and we - are awaiting a test of the work when the next big rain storm occurs. However, she is committed to continue addressing the problems.

During the closure, we were able to address the issues with our laptop and now, thanks to the work of our very helpful volunteers, the issues have been resolved. We also acquired new audio equipment and work is ongoing to improve our stage lighting. All of this has been made possible by the hardworking volunteers!

Because the work of planning for events always continues, Kathy Bacon, the coordinator of the Mazatlán Monologues, has issued an invitation to a planning meeting that is open to all. Please see the attached announcement.

We will resume operations in mid-October with a schedule of movies and other events. Please watch your emails for announcements and look for the monthly Bulletin at the beginning of October.

As always, thank you very much for your continued support and patronage. In planning for the next months and your next season in Mazatlán, please remember we always welcome new volunteers. Please contact us if you would like more information on how to join the team.
Invitation from Kathy Bacon regarding the Mazatlán Monologues…

Let’s Plan Our Next Season! Calling all Mazatlán Monologues storytellers — past, present, and hopefully future! As we get ready to begin our next season of Mazatlán Monologues, I’d love to bring together the people who have helped make this event what it is: our storytellers.

After a year of funny, moving, surprising, sometimes uncomfortable, and always very human stories, I think this is the perfect time to sit around a table, share some ideas, and talk about where we go next. I’d love your thoughts on: * Themes — What themes would make you immediately think, “Oh, I have a story for that!” * Venues — What worked? What didn’t? Where do you think Mazatlán Monologues feels most at home? * The experience — From signing up to stepping up to the microphone, what could we do better? * The audience — How can we bring more people into the room? *

New storytellers — How do we encourage people who have a story but haven’t quite found the courage to tell it yet? * Anything else! — This is your chance to throw an idea on the table. One thing I want to preserve is what has made Mazatlán Monologues special from the beginning: real people telling real stories in their own voices. No scripts. No acting. No telling someone how their story should be told. I have plenty of ideas, but I don’t want the next season to be shaped by just one person. I want to hear from you. So come with your opinions, your crazy ideas, your theme suggestions, your constructive criticism—and maybe even the story you’re thinking about telling next.

Let’s build the next season of Mazatlán Monologues together. Date: September 4 Time: 12:00-2 Place: MF&T at El Recreo (Constitution 209, Centro Histórico.)

“Greenwich Village Coffeehouse” is happening NEXT MONDAY, taking us back in time to the age of wandering minstrels, protest songs, and folk rock.

Featuring: Greg Brady on guitar, harmonica and vocals, and Javo Ortega on cajon; we will be presenting ancient ballads, old blues, mellow 60’s tunes and more.

Javo Ortega is one of Mazatlan’s premier percussionists, having worked with Malavista Social Club, Lori Davidson, Pink Power, Iliana Siller, Los Lolos and many other local musical projects. Greg Brady is a versatile frontman/sideman who has always wanted to play these esoteric gems in front of a sympatico audience.

The first set will be focusing on music from previous centuries, and the second set will focus on material from the 20th century, especially the 1960’s.

You are welcome to stay after the concert for a post-show chat with the musicians!

Tickets are 200 pesos and can be purchased at the theater or online at https://buy.stripe.com/8x24gy94q1gG7Czcyj1B60q

Mazatlán Monologues Is Taking a Little Summer Intermission 🎤☀️
An update from Kathy, the organizer of Mazatlan Monologues: Summer in Mazatlán has definitely made its presence known! Between the heat, humidity, storms—and so many of our storytellers and audience members traveling or escaping to cooler places—it’s been a challenging season to keep everyone together.
So, rather than fight the summer, Mazatlán Monologues is going to embrace it.
We’re taking a little intermission and will return in October, refreshed, recharged, and ready for more unforgettable stories.
Sometimes a pause is exactly what you need to come back with even more energy—and maybe a few new stories gathered from summer adventures!
Thank you to everyone who has supported Mazatlán Monologues, whether you’ve stepped up to the microphone, sat in the audience, encouraged a storyteller, or simply helped spread the word.
We’re not going anywhere—we’re simply taking a little Summer break. For only the second time in the past year, we weren’t able to gather enough storytellers for this month’s show. With the Summer heat and so many people traveling, it feels like the perfect time to take a short pause, recharge, and return in October bigger, better, and ready to tell more unforgettable stories.
See you in October. 🎤❤️
Real people. Real stories. One microphone.
We will process reimbursements soon, stay tuned for updates

CANCELLED: See other posts for info
"I’ve learned that not all invitations come in envelopes.
Some arrive as a phone call. Some as a diagnosis. Some as heartbreak. Some as a stranger saying, “Come sit with us.”
The important invitations rarely ask if it’s convenient.
They’re the ones that interrupt your plans and quietly whisper, “Your life could change if you say yes.”
I’ve said yes to some terrible invitations.
And I’ve almost said no to some of the best ones.
One invitation took me to another country. Another introduced me to people who became family. One simply asked, “Would you like to tell your story?”
I had no idea that saying yes to a microphone would also mean saying yes to being seen.
Life has taught me that courage doesn’t usually knock twice.
Sometimes the invitation isn’t asking you to go somewhere.
Sometimes it’s inviting you to become someone.
And looking back, I realize the greatest moments of my life all began the same way…
“Would you like to come?”"
