☀️ With warmer weather due to arrive across both the UK and Morocco this week, we are reminded how important cool, shaded spaces can be.

At our Garden Ecolodge, many of our spaces were designed to work naturally with the climate, using shade, airflow, gardens, and traditional earth construction to create places of calm and comfort.

🌿 Deep cooling arcades with shaded seating, where airflow moves in all directions to create natural cool breezes
🌿 Garden-facing bedrooms with natural airflow, thick earth walls, and high ceilings
🌿 Quiet terraces capturing early morning and evening breezes, with deep eaves shading the south-facing walls all year round
🌿 Solar chimneys that naturally draw warm air upwards — a form of solar-powered air conditioning
🌿 A refreshing chlorine-free pool surrounded by greenery and parasol-shaded loungers
🌿 A lovely north-facing shaded oval seating area with a roof beside the town walls
🌿 Two leafy pergolas with tables and chairs underneath, along with other peaceful shaded spaces throughout the gardens

Even during warmer weather, guests often comment on how surprisingly comfortable and restful the ecolodge feels.

🌸 A Blooming Marvellous Time to Be in Morocco 🌸

Right now at the Ecolodge, everything feels wonderfully alive. Flowers are bursting with colour, pathways are lined with fragrance, and every corner offers a new moment of beauty.

There’s something very special about this time of year here, with the gentle hum of nature all around and the gardens in their full, joyful expression.

Whether you’re wandering through the gardens, pausing by the fountain, or simply sitting quietly in reflection… this is a place to slow down and breathe.

✨ If you’ve been dreaming of a little escape, this is a truly magical time to visit.

Some gifts arrive quietly… but carry the weight of history, artistry, and deep connection.

This beautiful portrait of His Majesty the King of Morocco, gifted to us by Palais Claudio Bravo , is one such treasure.

Now taking pride of place at La Maison Anglaise Garden Ecolodge, it feels like more than just a work of art—it is a reflection of Morocco’s rich cultural heritage and the spirit of the country we are so privileged to call home.

The portrait was created by Claudio Bravo, a Chilean-born artist who chose Morocco as his home and creative sanctuary. From his palace near Taroudant, he became internationally renowned for his extraordinary realism—capturing not only likeness, but presence, dignity, and soul. His work was deeply influenced by the textures, light, and traditions of Morocco, which can be felt so powerfully in this piece. Claudio Bravo Palace is one of the places our guests can visit as part of our varied optional excursions.

We would also like to express our deep respect and appreciation for His Majesty the King, whose ongoing dedication to the Moroccan people, commitment to sustainable development, and support of responsible tourism continue to shape a future rooted in care, community, and progress. His continued support for women and children and his commitment to communities across Morocco, are further reflections of this enduring vision.

We offer our heartfelt thanks for this meaningful and inspiring gift.

Springtime in the gardens at La Maison Anglaise brings all sorts of activity… including among our resident tortoises. 🐢🌿

First came the courtship, with our tortoises taking advantage of the warm Moroccan sunshine during their spring breeding season.

After all that effort, one of them seemed to decide it was time for a well-earned rest, soaking up the warmth beside the garden wall. Tortoises rely on the sun to regulate their body temperature, so a sunny spot is always a favourite place to pause.

And then, the most exciting discovery… a tiny new arrival exploring the garden paths.

Baby tortoises hatch at only a few centimetres long and spend their early days carefully navigating the world, feeding on small plants and flowers among the garden beds.

Moments like this remind us that the gardens at La Maison Anglaise Garden Ecolodge are not just a peaceful retreat for our guests, but also a little haven for local wildlife. 🌿

Some of Morocco’s oldest crafts are still alive in Taroudant.

The traditional methods used in Taroudant’s tannery rely on natural materials and techniques that have changed little for generations.

Natural materials such as lime, salt, alum and pomegranate peel are used alongside simple tools like stones and wooden paddles, with every step carried out by hand.

This skilled craft has been passed down through generations of local tanners. Unlike many modern leather production methods that rely on chemicals, machinery and rapid large-scale production, the process here remains slow, natural and deeply rooted in tradition.

During a stay with us, guests can discover the remarkable range of traditional crafts still alive in Taroudant — from leatherwork and jewellery to pottery, basketry, rugs and carved stone.

During Ramadan, compassion and care for others are at the heart of daily life.

We are deeply grateful that the kindness of our guests helps support projects that benefit the local community, animals and the environment in Morocco and beyond.

Together we support and have supported:
📷 The Moroccan Children’s Trust, including the fostering project
📷 Environmental education for local children and our guests
📷 Earth-built stables at Jarjeer Mules for rescued working equines
📷 Tree planting initiatives – over 12,500 trees have been planted in Kenya, supporting local communities and biodiversity.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

On International Women’s Day we celebrate the remarkable women of Morocco’s argan oil cooperatives.

We support a variety of community projects, including a women’s cooperative producing argan oil in the Anti-Atlas Mountains, which we visit with our guests.

Traditionally, the preparation of argan oil by Berber women was a very labour-intensive process with a low production yield. Today, cooperatives like the one we collaborate with provide improved working conditions, access to equipment, childcare, and the opportunity for women to earn a sustainable income.

Argan oil is also renowned for its benefits — rich in Vitamin E and antioxidants that nourish skin, hair and nails.

A small bottle of argan oil carries a powerful story — one of women’s skill, resilience and community.

We also celebrate women everywhere, and give a special thank you to the wonderful women who are part of the La Maison Anglaise and Holidays with Heart family, our guests, tutors and team members in Morocco and West Wales.
