The first day of featured powerful opening remarks and high-level discussions, led by H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), alongside H.E. Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of the Kingdom of Morocco; H.E. Omar Moro, President of the Regional Council of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima; and Mr. Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi, Secretary General of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG-Africa), alongside key government representatives, city leaders, and regional partners.
The agenda unfolded with thought-provoking sessions including The Urgency of Carbon Neutral Cities, Development of Carbon Neutral Cities, Policy and Governance for Green and Inclusive Cities, Financing Net Zero Cities in Africa, Green Industrialization and Job Creation in Cities, Green Partnerships for Inclusive Urban Transformation, and Monitoring and Evaluation of Urban Climate Action. Together, these sessions set the tone for two days of strategic dialogue, spotlighting Africa’s leadership in the climate transition.
Speakers emphasized that building carbon-neutral cities is not a distant vision, it is an urgent imperative. Through inclusive governance, innovative financing mechanisms, and cross-sector collaboration, African cities can become engines of green growth, resilience, and opportunity.
Day one of RGEF 2025 proved that momentum is building, and the path forward is being shaped by bold ideas and united leadership.
