Due to the frequent change in rules and regulations regarding the COVID restrictions,
as well as heightened travel measures in Morocco, to ensure everyone’s safety, we
decided to postpone the HIGHLANDER Toubkal Morocco to 2023. Once the current
situation settles, we will call out for you and let you know about an even bigger, better,
and more exciting Adventure of a Lifetime that will happen in 2023.

Chefcahouen “The Blue Pearl Of Morocco”

Chefchaouen is a small city in the Rif mountains in the north-west of Morocco. This quirky town is probably one of the prettiest Cities in Morocco because of its blue-washed streets and buildings. That’s why it got nicknamed “the Blue Pearl of Morocco”.

Some say that the shades of blue on the walls keep the mosquitoes away, others believe that the blue helps to keep the houses cool during the warm summer months. The most popular theory is that it was painted blue by the Jews who fled to Chefchaouen to escape the Spanish Inquisition in the 15th century. Whatever the true reason for the blue color might be, up until today the locals still apply a fresh coat of paint on their houses about twice a year.

Hiking from Chefchaouen is available as, The village of Akchour in the Rif Mountains is the starting point of many hiking routes in the Rif Mountains which is 30 mins away from Chefchaouen down town.

It's the place where it all started, the original .adventure of a Lifetime. The trail is so diverse that once you've reached the finish, you will feel like it led you through 10 different countries. Only it didn't. You'll start in the mountains, finish at the seaside

The event was within the formats of 100/50/25-kilometer trail over 5/3/1 day(s), we had the chance to live with HIGHLANDER Velebet participants how did they (re)connected with the highlands sustainably.

Now that HIGHLANDER Toubkal x Morocco experience came to an end, we would like to reflect on our breathtaking hiking journey and those amazing days we got to spend in the heart of Morocco’s Atlas mountain range. ⛰

In the morning, when the clouds lifted we were greeted by the eye-catching and unexpected view. The green valleys around our feet giving way to scree slopes, fading upwards into the white-crowned splendour of the High Atlas. The path’s journey plodded along by our restless feet.  The sharp scent of plentiful juniper bushes was filling up our nostrils and we knew we were home. We got to explore Tibet-like villages, meet the local children and get to know the culture. Once we’ve reached the Toubkal National Park, the once-distant mountains were now rising inspirationally above us. 🌄

We had an amazing and utterly memorable time hiking on Toubkal and the surrounding mountains, and get to feel how .adventure really is a liberating and wonderful Adventure of a Lifetime, seeing the beauty of the High Atlas - surely we will be back again next year…till then follow our journey 💚
