CinEast Festival

CinEast Festival The 19th edition of CinEast will run from 9 to 25 October 2026. So tick your favourites and enjoy!

Each October, the wonderfully international Luxembourg finds itself in the midst of the atmosphere of the region that is still dealing with the burden of its communist past and difficulties of transformation, discovering the works of talented filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe. It is not easy for them to conquer the local screens and CinEast (ciné-East) is here to help them. Be it fiction,

documentary or animation, long or short, sad or funny, psychological or psychotic, arthouse gems or wider audience treasures - CinEast takes the best of it all and offers something to please every film fan. With dedicated cinephiles from the participating countries contributing to the programme, the selection is as genuine as it can be. This is not all though - there are also concerts, exhibitions, culinary soirées, ciné-debates and encounters with numerous guests and some thematic evenings too. CinEast Festival brings the best of Central and Eastern European cinema (and culture) to Luxembourg. Save the dates of the 18th edition (10-26 October 2025) and follow the festival website www.cineast.lu for details! CinEast festival is organised by the non-profit association CinEast asbl.

🎬 We are proud to have been a partner of the UA Days in Luxembourg festival since its very first edition, and this year also to contribute beyond the film screenings.

Our director, Radek Lipka, will participate in the upcoming "Art Under Fire" (Art & Poetry in Time of War) discussion on Monday, 8 June, at Cercle Cité.

The panel will bring together remarkable voices from cinema, literature and the arts, including filmmaker and writer Iryna Tsilyk, whom CinEast welcomed in 2023 with "Rock. Paper. Gr***de.", and producer Marion Guth from a_BAHN, a former member of our International Jury. Other participants include Irena Karpa, Ukrainian writer, musician and public intellectual, and Marta Czyż, Polish art historian and independent curator.

Join us for a conversation on the role of culture, storytelling and artistic expression in times of conflict – and on how art can become a powerful force of resistance, resilience and hope in the dark times Ukraine is currently facing.

🎬 Fasten your seatbelts – Jan Komasa returns with a dark, gripping and wildly unpredictable English-language film!

Save the date for a special avant-première evening that we are delighted to bring to you in collaboration with British & Irish Film Festival Luxembourg and Kinepolis Luxembourg

✨ "Good Boy" (aka "Heel") is the latest work by Jan Komasa, the acclaimed director of the Oscar-nominated "Corpus Christi". This hunting and radical new feature marks his first English-language film, co-produced by the legendary Polish filmmaker Jerzy Skolimowski, featuring mainly British cast with the outstanding lead performance by Stephen Graham, whom you'll certainly remember from the recent mini-series "Adolescence", which he co-created, co-wrote and starred in.

Tommy, a volatile 19-year-old, revels in drugs, parties and violence. But after a drunken night out takes a terrifying turn, he wakes up imprisoned in the basement of a remote Yorkshire house, and what unfolds is far beyond anything he could imagine.

We are delighted to present this film to you in collaboration with our partners from British & Irish Film Festival Luxembourg, following our very successful first collaboration last October and the screening of "Sanatorium". Big thanks also to Kinepolis Luxembourg for believing in this bold and unconventional film and enabling us to make it happen!

🎬 A sci-fi Ukrainian tragicomedy – not to be missed
📍 Kinepolis Kirchberg • 6 June

As long-term partners of the UA Days in Luxembourgin Luxembourg and LUkraine asbl, we are proud to be partners of the screening of this very special Ukrainian film – a feature completed just before the full-scale invasion.

Set in outer space, "U Are the Universe" blends humour, melancholy and existential reflection in a unique and deeply human way.

At once playful and poignant, the film invites us to reflect on connection, loneliness and what it means to be human – even (or especially) in times of rupture.

See the details below, save the date & don't miss this opportunity to discover a different film coming from Ukraine and meet fellow Ukrainian residents!
