Klaipėda Piano Masters

Klaipėda Piano Masters Biggest piano academy in the Baltic States for upcoming pianists and musical entrepreneurs. 9th edition - July 16-27 in Klaipėda, Lithuania

KLAIPĖDA PIANO MASTERS invites pianists from all over the world to receive knowledge and training while discovering the beauty of Samogitia and the Baltic Sea. Established in 2016, KPM was the first academy in the world to include Perfomance Psychology, Presentation, Physiotherapy & Massage, as well as Stage Style & Fashion into its piano program. Each year artistic director Gintaras Januševičius

and his team update their program to help aspiring pianists navigate the constantly changing world of classical music. "In today's constantly changing music environment, organizational skills, versatility, and the ability to analyze the market play a critical role. Many talented artists struggle to make their voices heard while others manage to turn their passion for music into a wonderful job. When we created this unique program of KLAIPĖDA PIANO MASTERS back in 2016, our goal was to train the next generation of piano personalities and equip them with the tools necessary to create opportunities for themselves and grow their audiences. Inspiring success stories of our students show us that we are on the right path."

REPERTOIRE rules at the KPM are simple: perform and work on any repertoire you wish, plus one piece from the mandatory list.

What’s on the list? It stays secret until your participation is confirmed. Usually featuring around 30 options, this year’s list also allows participants to replace the mandatory piece with one of their own choice if it matches the character description. This challenge not only prepares students for an increasingly common academic task, but also invites them to become co-curators of the concert.

The rest of the repertoire is completely free, and the Lithuanian audience is looking forward to all kinds of discoveries. In recent years they heard Rzewski, Say, Weinberg, Saygun, Silvestrov, and Trenet/Weissenberg, amongst many others. And they loved it!

TWO DAYS LEFT TO APPLY!

By applying for the KPM, you are making your first introduction to us long before we get to see you in Klaipėda. Your pictures, introduction letter, and biography give us valuable insight into your personality and professional attitude.

Whereas in most projects applications are accepted or dismissed without further comments, we will let you know what you did well and what you should consider changing for future applications. This applies both to the pianists who were not selected and to those who were, as some applications may be used (with permission) as examples during our final lecture, “Portfolio in C Major: Clear, Confident, Compelling” on July 26.

Thank you for trusting us and our program to support your future. Apply until May 15 on our website.

ARTISTIC VERSATILITY

„Leonard Bernstein was a multi-facetted artist, whose different perspectives on music as a conductor, pianist, composer and educator all played into each other – that made him stand out in each discipline he pursued. The most important part of his professionality to me is that he had a clear understanding that music only speaks if it speaks to people, moves them. Keeping that in mind helps modern artists to both understand the meaning of their profession better, connect with audiences and further the role and importance of arts in society.“

Bennet Eicke-Kļava reads his lecture “Leonard Bernstein: A Blueprint for the 21st-Century Musician” on July 25. THREE days left to apply for our 2026 edition!

LEISURE TIME - no summer academy would be complete without fun and healthy distractions. Ping pong and basketball are available directly at the academy headquarters, where we all live and practice, along with chess and numerous card games that usually stretch deep into the starry night. The beach is just one bus ride away, as are Klaipėda Old Town and the Ferry Port, which can take you to the Sea Museum and the Dolphinarium. Karaoke night? Obviously - how could we skip one of the academy’s most beloved traditions? However, if you feel the need to practice as much as possible, or get a midnight craving for Brahms, our practice rooms are available to you 24/7.

CONCERT IN THE DARK is a source of inspiration, a window to the past, the possibility to meet the idols of previous generations in a complete dark hall where, with your eyes closed, you can see the concerts of the glorious past. Do you know Bruce Liu, Vikingur Olafsson, Daniil Trifonov? Yes, because they are the idols of your generation. But what about Raul Koczalski or Alexander Brailowsky or Myra Hess or even Vladimir De Pachmann? Many of the previous superstars are not very well known for the young generation of the pianists. During our Concert in the Dark, we meet these idols and hear their exciting interpretations, both to inspire us and to feel the grandeur of our profession.

The 6th installment of the „Concert in the Dark“ takes place on July 19. Five days left to apply - visit our website and join us in Klaipėda this July!

PILATES FOR PIANISTS

„Pilates is an ideal workout for those trying exercise for the first time as well as for athletes looking to improve their performance. Since all movements are performed slowly and with controlled precision, Pilates delivers long-lasting results. For these reasons, it is especially recommended for people whose professions involve prolonged sitting. During the session, we will focus on proper posture and perform fundamental deep muscle strengthening exercises.“

Daiva Palubinskaite will teach her Pilates workshop on July 23. 6 days left to apply and join KPM 2026! Visit our website and claim your spot in Klaipėda this summer!

WHAT IS THE SEA FESTIVAL PIANO CUP? At once the most objective piano contest in the world, a parody of a piano competition, and perhaps the best remedy for stage anxiety, the Sea Festival Piano Cup is truly one of a kind. Its seventh edition will once again feature six rounds, including all-time favorites* such as the Scales Race and the Memory Game, along with some new surprises.

The very first winner, Bennet Eicke-Kļava, returns to KPM as a lecturer, and another past winner has just applied to join the 2026 class - perhaps hoping to reclaim the cup. Klaipėda will crown its new piano king or queen on July 25.

Only one week left to apply! Visit our website today and secure your spot in the 2026 class.

MENTAL PRACTICE

“The ability to practice mentally takes a long time to develop, but it is crucial for anyone who wants to pursue the dream of becoming a touring artist nowadays. Concert life demands a large and varied repertoire, which makes it very hard for pianists who tend to learn their repertoire slowly and inefficiently. In this workshop, I introduce tools, techniques, and exercises which, combined with a passionate approach and patience, can produce wonderful results.”

Gintaras Januševičius gives a detailed introduction into Mental Practice on July 19. Visit our website to read the full program and apply free of charge by May 15.

PIANISTS CHOIR

“(Our) goal is not to become a singer, but to use the voice as a tool to improve piano playing. For many instrumentalists, singing can feel uncomfortable or even bring back negative schooltime experiences, so it’s important to approach it gently and without pressure. I focus on exploration rather than performance. There is no judgment about the quality of the voice - only curiosity about how singing can shape phrasing, breathing, and musical intention. Once we start to think of singing as a natural, helpful part of making music, it becomes much easier to relax and use our voices with confidence.”

Dana Asnate Eicke-Kļava leads the first ever KPM Pianists Choir in the second half of the academy. Visit our website to read the full program and apply free of charge by May 15.
