Inaugural Major H. L. Reed Memorial Shield for the Inter House Singing Competition
The Western Music Society of Royal College held the Inter House Singing Competition 2023 at the RCU Skills Centre on the 13th of November from 1.30pm onwards. After 3 years it was not only brought back but was taken to a grander scale than ever before.
The highlight of this year’s competition was the Major H. L. Reed Memorial Shield being introduced for the first time. Major. H. L. Reed was one of the greatest Principals of Royal College who wrote our school song and introduced the current house system. The Western Music Society was formed in 1919 and it was during Principal Reed’s time that The Royal College Choir as well as the Western Music Society achieved great heights.
As the Western Music Society, we are extremely proud and happy that we were able to introduce a shield honouring Principal Reed after over 100 years from the time he held office at our Alma mater.
We hope the Inter-house Singing Competition will continue to grow and that all Royalists who love singing would aspire to win the Maj. H. L. Reed Memorial Shield for many years to come.
