[ CEW25 | ‘Generation Power: The Future of CE, Volume 2’ Launch and Graduation of 2025 CEF ]

EnergyLab Asia and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) launched the second issue of Generation Power: The Future of Clean Energy on 7 October 2025 during Clean Energy Week 2025.

This issue brings together 21 thought-provoking think pieces on clean energy challenges and solutions, researched and written by the 21 Fellows of the Clean Energy Fellowship 2025 program. The collection covers a wide range of topics, drawing on regional and global examples to demonstrate that many of the ideas presented are already practical, actionable, and achievable—it just remains for Cambodia to adopt or scale them up.

The session also celebrated the official graduation of our Clean Energy Fellows, marking a key milestone in developing the next generation of clean energy leaders in Cambodia.

[ CEW25 | Unleashing Cambodia's Clean Energy Skills Potential ]

As Cambodia accelerates its energy transition, the demand for a skilled clean energy workforce is surging, but are we ready?

At Clean Energy Week 2025, panelists emphasised that technical knowledge alone isn't enough. Jerry Lee from Verywords stressed that "soft skills like problem-solving and communication are essential for on-site work and customer relations."

Dr. Kinnaleth Vongchanh from ITC noted that students often lack practical work experience and communication skills, while EGE's Chanraksmey Vorn shared how companies must invest heavily in training fresh graduates who aren't industry-ready.

But challenges persist: curriculum misalignment with market needs, limited hands-on training, unclear industry standards, and insufficient collaboration between universities, government, and private sector.

The way forward? The panels noted these following recommendations: Establish a national clean energy skills framework under MME, create clear safety and training standards, institutionalise a skills council to align curriculum with industry demands, and ensure private sector engagement in workforce development.

Most critically, we need to align Cambodia's goal of 1.5 million TVET graduates by 2030 with actual clean energy sector needs by ensuring youth are equipped not just with certificates, but with skills that unlock real green jobs.

Those involved took part in Clean Energy Fellowships run by EnergyLab Asia, a non-profit organization established in Cambodia in 2018 to drive the transition to renewable energy.

[ CEW25 | Women's Economic Empowerment through Just Energy Transition ]

Cambodia's ambitious 70% renewable energy target by 2030 must put people, especially women at the center of the transition.

At Clean Energy Week 2025, EnergyLab Asia’s Sokphalkun Out emphasised that "JET is not just about replacing coal with solar panels but making sure that communities are not left behind."

Oxfam in Cambodia's Khim Sok highlighted that women, who are primary energy users at home and most affected by pollution, should be equipped with knowledge to leverage energy for economic opportunities. "Women can be the leaders in energy transition," he said.

But barriers remain: heavy domestic responsibilities, gender expectations, lack of women in STEM, and limited advocacy create hurdles for women's participation.

The opportunities? Participants identified better job creation, financial independence, and meaningful engagement spaces for women in the clean energy sector.

The way forward? Clear policies, TVET opportunities for women, caregiving facilities, capacity building programs, and financial incentives.

Most critically: moving from policies to implementation - ensuring no one is left behind in Cambodia's energy future.
