Good move
The Bank of South Sudan will commence Phase IV of the reorganization of the informal forex market on the 8th of April 2024.
During a press briefing today afternoon, Central Bank Governor James Alic Garang said all informal forex dealers are urged to obtain licenses promptly and adhere to this directive.
Authorized currency traders must prominently display rates in their operating areas and maintain minimal variability between buying and selling rates in comparison to the bank reference rate.
Law enforcement agencies have been directed to rigorously enforce this policy.
“From today to eternity, it is illegal to sell foreign currency in South Sudan if you don't have a license. For example, if someone is selling dollars in Konyokonyo, in the midst of the market, and they don't have a license from today they need to stop," declared Governor Garang.
