To mark World Environment Day, KWS Malindi Marine National Park & Reserve organized a beach clean-up aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthier coastal environment.

We were honored to be joined by renowned conservationist and Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) award recipient Jim Justus Nyamu and his team, alongside the Kenya Navy, Wildlife Research and training institute and other stakeholders who supported the exercise.

Together, we collected a total of 103 kg of waste, categorized as:
♻️ Plastic waste – 6 kg
πŸ—‘οΈ General waste – 83 kg
🍾 Glass waste – 14 kg

Encouragingly, plastic litter has significantly reduced compared to previous clean-ups.

We thank all participants for their dedication and commitment to protecting our marine and coastal ecosystems.

Every effort counts in keeping our beaches clean and safeguarding nature for future generations.

🐒 Protecting the Next Generation of Sea Turtles

KWS Malindi Marine National Park team successfully translocated a sea turtle nest containing 150 eggs after it was discovered below the high-water mark, where it was at risk of inundation by rising tides.

The eggs were carefully relocated to a safer nesting site to improve their chances of hatching and contributing to the recovery of these endangered marine species.

Sea turtle nest translocation is an important conservation measure that helps protect vulnerable nests from natural threats while ensuring the survival of future generations.

Together, we continue working to safeguard our marine biodiversity for present and future generations.
