The Kirandich Conservancy is a youth and women driven CBO with membership drawn from the communities surrounding the Kirandich Dam. Registered under the Social Services Act, the group seeks to bring together local youth and women to engage in community empowering environmental friendly projects. Kirandich Conservancy seeks to undertake the following activities:
1. Set up tree nurseries, organize f
or tree planting activities to increase vegetation cover and putting up gabions to curb soil erosion in a bid to conserve the eco system
2. Erect safety infrastructure that include a screening barrier at entrance of the dam/eco system, full time operational liaison office facility and emergency lines, put in place public toilet facilities for visitors, procure a boat for emergency and rescue operation and erect a jetty boat docking. We shall also train divers among the community members for eventualities.
3. Capacity building of the community to become conservation champions, and to vigilant against activities that can compromise the integrity of the water supply.
4. Map nature trails and set up camping sites, bird watching towers, hobby fishing spots and put in place waste management facilities and utilities. We shall also put up heritage sites and animal orphanages for endangered local wild life.
5. Hold an annual marathon in the months of April to bring together a forum to raise awareness on the conservation of the ecosystem as well as bring together various stake holders.
