Sense Island — to everyone who supported us
Sense Island, a one-of-a-kind art project using an uninhabited island at night. It was first held in 2019 as an event held under the cover and stillness of night with the aim of reawakening visitors' true human senses through artwork installed throughout the island.
We later expanded it into its 2024 presentation "SENSE ISLAND/LAND," where we expanded its hours into daytime and extended the venue beyond Sarushima to include the city center of Yokosuka. In this project, we aimed to rediscover Yokosuka’s terrain, a part of the earth and land formed over tens of thousands of years, and its diverse industries handed down over centuries, and think about the environmental and regional changes that may be yet to come, all through the lens of art. We believe many art fans enjoyed this endeavor.
Thanks to Sense Island, Sarushima has gained widespread media attention and tourism, drawing interest from both inside and outside of Yokosuka. We have determined that this project has fully achieved its role in enhancing and promoting the urban appeal of Sarushima and Yokosuka City. As a result, in order to continue to our next stage, we have decided to draw the curtain on the 2024 edition of Sense Island.
We express our gratitude to everyone who visited Sarushima and to all who showed interest in the project. We also sincerely thank the many people and organizations who supported the event.
We would be grateful for your continued interest in our initiatives to make Yokosuka an even more interesting, appealing place to live and visit.
