【制限を可能性に ワンハンドピアノ】
"Turning Limitations into Possibilities: One-Hand Piano"
私は今回、映画「にしきたショパン」の写真パネル展示という形で、左手のピアノ国際コンクールに関わる機会をいただきました。
会場で拝見できた演奏者たちの姿は、私の想像をはるかに超える音楽体験となりました。
特に印象的だったのは、朝一番に会場に現れ、わずか10分でも練習の機会を探していたフランス人ピアニストの、Terence le Beyec(テレンス・ル・ベイエック)さん。
たまたま交わした彼との短い会話が、きっかけで知ったピアニストです。
本選での美しい音色に心を奪われ、思わず感想を伝えずにはいられませんでしたが、ガラ・コンサートでの演奏は更に圧巻でした。
今回のガラ・コンサートのためにわざわざ準備された100年前のビンテージスタインウェイから紡ぎ出される音色の深み、左手一本とは思えない豊かな響き...
特にラベル作曲「左手のためのピアノコンチェルト」での、山口雅敏さんとテレンスさんの2台ピアノでの演奏は、観客のみなさんが魅了されていました。
見事に、ウィトゲンシュタイン賞と箕面市長賞のダブル受賞を果たしたことに納得です。
2位に輝いた仙台出身の早坂眞子さんの演奏も素晴らしく、石巻のイベントからその成長と今後の伸びしろを感じました。
また、入賞された大山由紀子さんは、以前、コロナ禍という困難な状況下で、オンライン演奏動画という新たな挑戦をされました(この取り組みには、「にしきたショパン」の撮影スタッフも技術面でサポートさせていただき、映画制作で培った経験を活かすことができました)
映画「にしきたショパン」の制作がきっかけで、左手のピアニストの皆様の活動に触れる機会が増え、その認知度も確実に高まってきていることを実感しています。
これは、演奏家の皆様の地道な活動の成果だと思いますし、そこに映画や写真による記録が、その活動の広がりに少しでも貢献できているとすれば、これ以上の喜びはありません。
演奏家一人一人が見せてくれた真摯な姿勢や、音楽への情熱、そして何より片手で弾くという制限を「可能性に変える」という強い意志をみなさんお持ちです。
限界は私たちが決めるものではなく、新しい可能性は、常に私たちの目の前に広がっていることを改めて感じました。
コンクールの後も、各自がそれぞれの場所でコンサートを開催されると思いますが、その時は、ぜひ訪れて、ピアノへの想いを感じていただければ幸いです。
I recently had the opportunity to participate in the International Left-Hand Piano Competition through a photo panel exhibition for the film "Left of Chopin."
The performers I witnessed at the venue moved me far beyond my expectations.
Particularly memorable was French pianist Terence le Beyec, who arrived first thing in the morning seeking even just 10 minutes of practice time. I came to know him through a brief chance conversation.
His beautiful tone in the finals captivated me, compelling me to share my impressions, but his gala concert performance was even more spectacular. The deep resonance produced from a 100-year-old vintage Steinway, specially prepared for this gala concert, created a vibrant sound that seemed impossible from just one hand. His two-piano performance of Ravel's "Piano Concerto for the Left Hand" particularly enchanted the entire venue.
His achievement of winning both the Wittgenstein Prize and the Minoh City Mayor's Prize renewed my appreciation for music's possibilities.
Second-place winner Mako Hayasaka from Sendai also gave an outstanding performance, showing growth and potential since her event in Ishinomaki.
Prize winner Yukiko Oyama previously took on the challenge of online performance videos during the difficult COVID-19 period (where the "Left of Chopin" film crew provided technical support, utilizing our filmmaking experience).
Through making "Left of Chopin," I've noticed increased exposure to left-hand pianists' activities and growing public awareness of their work.
This results from the performers' dedicated efforts, and if our film and photographic documentation have contributed even slightly to spreading awareness of their amazing work, nothing could make me happier.
Each performer's sincere attitude, passion for music, and above all, their strong will to "turn limitations into possibilities" -
I was reminded that limits are not for us to decide, and new possibilities are always unfolding before us.
