Arita’s Asagayu (rice porridge) tradition. On all days of the market you can line up in the early morning for a bowl of Asagayu at the fudanotsuji intersection in front of Tozan Shrine. You get a blue ticket and wait until the Asagayu is brought out at 6:00. With the ticket you can buy a bowl of Asagayu (¥700) and the good thing is you can take this bowl home after you finish eating. This year it is decorated with a horse because it is the year of the horse! To collect the full set please visit Arita’s porcelain market 11 more times 😉

Genemon Workshop on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
One of the places where you can see the process of porcelain making in Arita is the famous Genemon kiln. On Sundays the craftsmen and craftswomen are off but the rest of the week you can see the different phases of perfecting a piece by all the skilled workers at this kiln.
There is also a great showroom and museum on site.
