何も無い様に見える柱が扉の様に回転して開く

え！？何これ！ってなる様な仕掛けの納まりを

バッチリ納めれた時の達成感は最高に楽しい！

R壁の吹抜け階段

板幅、25㎜の大鋸目の板

厚みは2種類

ランダムに張ってジョイントもランダム

階段の段鼻や蹴込み、壁との取り合い、

フットライトの位置、始まりから終わりまで

全てにおいて完璧な割付で張った

圧巻！！苦労したけど最高にカッコいい空間になった

Open-riser staircase on the R wall

25mm-wide boards with large saw marks

Two different thicknesses

Installed randomly with random joints

From the stair nosings and risers to the transitions with the walls,

the placement of the under-stair lighting, and every detail from start to finish—

everything was laid out with a perfect layout

Absolutely stunning!! It was a lot of work, but the result is an incredibly cool space

Small Plane by Teruhide Ishido

I usually use those cheap, sharp small planes from the wholesaler, but

how should I put it?

There are moments when you just think,
“I’m going to use this plane today!”

It’s not like I can’t get the job done without it,

but it’s like a lucky outfit—

or maybe you’d call it a “lucky tool”?

Using a tool like that just feels good, doesn’t it?

下地窓の墨壺　材種　桑

糸車を下地窓の形に彫り
結束線で蔓の様に編み込んだ

軽子は茶道で使う棗の形

数寄屋建築に携わるなら墨壺もそれっぽいのが良いなと憧れていた

先輩の墨壺を見た時の衝撃は未だに覚えている

そして先輩の墨壺をオマージュして作った

ただ、その先輩の墨壺の完成度には程遠い

自分の周りに腕の良い先輩が居る環境は本当に有り難かった

勿論、そう言った環境で仕事がしたかったから
それなりに努力もしたし

いつでもチャンスを掴める姿勢でいた

環境さえ良ければ誰でも良くなる訳ではないし

悪いからと言って腐る訳でもない

全ては自分次第

この人の様になりたい！って自分が思っていた人にはまだまだ程遠いけど

誰かの目標になれる様な自分ではいたい
まだまだ道のりは長いな

Inkwell for a Sh*taji Window | Material: Mulberry

Carved into the shape of a Sh*taji window
and woven like vines using binding wire

The "Karuko" is shaped like a natsume used in the tea ceremony

I had always admired the idea that if I were to work on Sukiya-style architecture, the inkwell should look the part

I still remember the shock I felt when I first saw my senior’s inkwell

And so, I created this as an homage to my senior’s inkwell

However, it falls far short of the perfection of that senior’s inkwell

I was truly grateful to be in an environment surrounded by skilled seniors

Of course, since I wanted to work in that kind of environment,
I put in a fair amount of effort,

and I always kept myself ready to seize any opportunity.

It’s not as if anyone can improve just because the environment is good,

nor does a bad environment mean you’ll give up.

It all depends on yourself.

I’m still a long way from the person I once looked up to and thought, “I want to be like them!”

But I want to be the kind of person who can serve as a goal for others.
I still have a long way to go.

祝上棟

ヤマサキ建築事務所の四年目の若手、石川が

初めて墨付け、刻みをした現場が上棟しました

彼は私が技術指導している大工技能学科の卒業生でもあります

学生の頃から見てきているので

彼の成長は毎回とても嬉しい

これからもどんどん成長していく姿を

見せてくれるだろう

そしていつの日か私を超えて行って欲しいと願う

引退するまでは私も成長するから抜かされへんけどなw

Celebrating the Topping-Out Ceremony

Ishikawa, a young carpenter in his fourth year at Yamazaki Architectural Office,

has completed his first project where he marked out and cut the wood, and the building has reached its topping-out stage.

He is also a graduate of the Carpentry Skills Program, where I serve as a technical instructor.

Having watched him since his student days,

I’m always thrilled to see how much he’s grown.

I’m sure he’ll continue to show us

just how much he’s capable of growing.

And someday, I hope he’ll surpass me.

Though I’ll keep growing myself until I retire, so he won’t be able to overtake me just yet, haha.

Weaving the vines for a suspended ceiling

Since this is something I rarely get to do,

it’s also something you don’t often get to see.

I thought you might be curious about what it’s like,

北山杉の垂木

その間に竹の尺八

その上に竹小舞

尺八と竹小舞を蔓で編んで

その上に黒部杉のヘギ板

エアコンの吹き出しスリットもあったりで

盛りだくさんで楽しい仕事でした

Kitayama cedar rafters

Bamboo shakuhachi tubes between the rafters

Bamboo latticework on top of that

The shakuhachi tubes and bamboo latticework woven together with vines

Kurobe cedar hegi boards on top of that

There were even air conditioning vents

It was a rich and rewarding project

和栂の天井板

和栂の板に蟻桟を掛けて天井に
底目地で鴨居や壁際も底目地

もちろんピカピカに仕上げました

板は迫力がありますが
スッキリしているのは
細かい納まりの効果だと思う

どうすれば上手く綺麗に納まるか
設計図面を読み取って
図面には無い部分も考えて作る

それが大工としての醍醐味

それが私のスタイル

Japanese Larch Ceiling Boards

Japanese larch boards were installed on the ceiling with tongue-and-groove joints.
The bottom joints were used for the door frames and along the walls as well.

Of course, we finished it to a high gloss.

The boards have a powerful presence,
but I think the clean, uncluttered look
is the result of the meticulous detailing.

How can I achieve a clean, beautiful finish?
I interpret the architectural drawings
and build with consideration for the parts not shown on the plans.

That is the true joy of being a carpenter.

That is my style.

墨壺　白　(自作)

材種　楓

糸を刺す軽子も楓

墨汁や朱墨ではわかりにくい色の濃い木材には

白墨の墨壺で

白墨は胡粉　

墨を付けてすぐは少しわかりにくく

乾いてから白く残ります

一文字型の墨壺は三色使い分けてます　

使う度に造っている時の思い出

完成して初めて使った時の思い出

自分の歴史がこの道具に詰まっている

自作の道具は使っていて最高に気分が良い

良い仕事してやるんだ！
って想いながら造った道具だから

使う度に初心に戻れるし

仕事する為に必要道具だけど
モチベーションを保つ為の道具でもある

私にとって自作の道具はかけがえのない相棒

Inkstone Holder - White (Handmade)

Wood Type: Maple

The thread-stitched tray is also maple

For dark-colored woods where ink or vermilion ink is hard to see

Use a white inkstone holder

White ink is gofun (white lead)

It's a bit hard to see right after applying ink

But it leaves a white mark once dry

I use three different inkstone holders for each color　

Each use brings back memories of its creation

Memories of using it for the first time after completion

My own history is packed into this tool

Using self-made tools feels absolutely fantastic

Because they were made with the thought,
"I'll do a good job with this!"

Each use brings me back to my original intent

They're tools necessary for work,
but also tools for maintaining motivation

For me, self-made tools are irreplaceable partners
