Friendship Day is Iwakuni’s largest single-day event, attracting tens of thousands of spectators.

日米親善デーは、毎年5月に米海兵隊岩国航空基地を日本一般に開放する米軍と海上自衛隊主催のイベントで、非常に多くのの来場者を迎える。個人だけでなく、友人や家族と一緒に参加する人も多く、長年培われてきた日米の友好関係を誰もが再確認する機会となっている。

This year looked a little different, but what stood out most was the community that showed up. From early arrivals on the flight line to those who stayed as long as they could, the day was shaped by the people who came out to be part of it.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the most of the moments we had together. We appreciate your support and look forward to welcoming you back for Friendship Day 2027.

今年は例年とは少し違った形になりましたが、何よりも印象的だったのは、参加してくださったコミュニティの皆様でした。空港の滑走路に早くから駆けつけてくださった方々から、できる限り長く滞在してくださった方々まで、この日は参加してくださった皆様のおかげで素晴らしい一日となりました。

ご参加いただき、共に過ごした時間を大切にしてくださった皆様に心より感謝申し上げます。皆様のご支援に感謝するとともに、フレンドシップデー2027でまたお会いできることを楽しみにしております。

The 2026 JMSDF-MCAS Iwakuni Friendship Day may have wrapped up earlier than expected, but the energy on the flight line never went unnoticed. From the crowds who came out to the moments we were able to share in between, today was still one to remember.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as conditions shifted throughout the day, and we’re grateful to those who spent part of it with us here at MCAS Iwakuni. More photos and highlights are on the way tomorrow. Stay tuned. ✈️
