We got some really hot stuff for our 1st Disco News of the year!
• Japan Shinkansen bullet train turned into a disco club: last December, JR Central held a disco event in the Tokaido Shinkansen line. They turned one car into a disco club to mark the 100-year anniversary of a local event. This wasn’t the 1st time the train company had a disco car, the 1st party was organized in 1988.
• Donna Summer inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame: the Queen of Disco finally received her flowers and was posthumously inducted on December 15, 2025. Donna Summer passed away in 2012 at 63 years old and her contribution to the disco genre is undeniable. She co-wrote many of her hit tracks like On the radio, Love to love you, Bad girls and many more.
• Former Studio 54 venue in jeopardy: the iconic disco club turned into a Broadway theater is doomed to close within a couple of years. The building is in need of a major renovation but the theater company that operates the venue is in a difficult administrative situation to launch the refurbishing plan and it’s asking for the Mayor or NYC to step in to green light some of their requests.
• First ever British Asian electronic dance album reissued by Naya Beat label: it was a family affair started in the 80’s by Mohinder Kaur Bhamra and her sons which led to the release of this fantastic disco-funk album with a heavy touch of psyche-electro dance. Now the LA based label Naya Beat is giving it a 2nd birthday with a 2xLP reissue.
• Incognito announced new tour in Europe and Japan: the most funky British band will soon kick off its 2026 tour in Japan followed by Europe. Launched in the 70’s the band has participated with many artists such as Jocelyn Brown and Tony Momrelle. Mixing disco-funk, acid jazz and soul, their discography has been the inspiration of many artists, so don’t miss them on their tour this year!
