This is it, the end of the week and the highlight of the trip, it's Japan Cup day!! Today's race meeting at Fuchu is highlighted by the running of Japan's most prestigious race - the Japan Cup.

The Group 1 Japan Cup is one of the most prestigious mile and a half races in the world. It takes place on the last Sunday of November at Tokyo Racecourse with prize money of $6 million. It is an all-aged conditions race with a maximum field of eighteen runners.

The Japan Cup regularly attracts top middle-distance horses from around the world with winners from North America, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, France, Germany and Italy.

TOKYO RACECOURSE
Tokyo Racecourse is located in Fuchu city and was built in 1933. The grass track is a circuit of a mile and a quarter while the dirt track is just over a mile. Jump racing is also staged at the venue. Major renovations were undertaken between 2000 and 2007 including upgrading the Fuji View Stand and adding The Memorial 60 grandstand.

The Melbourne Cup this year will be run on November 5th 2019 which is the first Tuesday in November. The race will be run at Flemington racecourse and the start time for the race is at 3pm. The final field for the Melbourne Cup 2019 will be decided on Saturday 3rd November after the running of the Lexus Stakes which will decide the last remaining spot in the Melbourne Cup field.

The last two Melbourne Cups have been won by international horses which is seen to have increased the amount of international runners heading to Australia during the Spring to tackle the race.
