Join the Singapore Pavilion's curatorial team for an afternoon of conversations exploring the research, ideas and processes behind the exhibition. Through a series of focused discussions, the programme examines Singapore as a city shaped by overlapping flows of people, cultures, infrastructure, policies, technologies, ecologies and knowledge systems. Together, we'll reflect on how diverse histories and intelligences have shaped our urban condition, and how they can inform more liveable, inclusive, resilient and imaginative futures.

From Le Corbusier’s ‘Ineffable space’ to Louis Kahn’s ‘Unmeasurable’ criteria for great buildings, we continue this architectural pursuit to connect the intangible with the most urgent tangibles of contemporary everyday lives.

We look to ask if architecture and design can move the needle on the public’s sense of agency, attachment, attraction, connection, freedom and inclusion.

Co-founders of Lekker Architects, architects Ong Ker-Shing and Joshua Comaroff designed Kindle Garden, Singapore’s first inclusive preschool that accepts typically developing children as well as those with Down Syndrome, visual and auditory impairments and needs at various points on the autism spectrum.

Featuring Dr Emi Kiyota in conversation with Serene Tng

Designing for change begins with shifting our own mindsets - environmental gerontologist, Emi Kiyota, continues to challenge us to rethink and redefine our roles and purpose in leading communities, regardless of age or abilities.

The Ibasho project was pioneered in 2013 as part of the recovery efforts in response to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. The elders in the Massaki neighbourhood came together to lead the community, running a physical Ibasho House, with gathering places and regular activities.

This social experiment showed that elders in the community can be active leaders when empowered to own and shape physical spaces in their neighbourhood. Dr Emi Kiyota, is the founder of Ibasho.
