⚡️Alumni Spotlight – Catherine Nguyen!

A graduate of Screen Music Program, 6th Edition (summer 2024), Catherine Nguyen is a Los Angeles-based Vietnamese-American composer whose interest in diverse storytelling has led her to work in AAA games as well as studio and independent film projects.

She is currently one of two composers for 4:LOOP, an upcoming IP from Bad Robot Games and PlayStation. As a contractor at Blizzard Entertainment, Catherine is a credited composer on World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, where she also assisted Glenn Stafford and the music team with additional writing, editing, and score mixing. Her work at Blizzard also includes Wwise implementation, additional arranging, and play-testing for Diablo IV under composers Ted Reedy and Leo Kaliski. Additionally, she has contributed to Arknights, AFK Journey, and Slay the Princess as an orchestrator.

Beyond music for games, Catherine has worked in the music departments for Netflix’s limited series Dragon Age: Absolution (2022), Disney's Encanto (2021), Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020), and the Sky TV original series Murder at the Cottage (2021). A former mentee of the AWFC mentorship program under Christophe Beck, she was also selected as one of ten finalists to attend the inaugural BMI Composer Lab in 2025.
When not in the studio, she can be found reading, playing video games, or exploring events, markets, and new cafés in the city!

⚡️Alumni Spotlight – Giacomo D’Anselmi!

A graduate of Screen Music Program, 7th Edition (summer 2025), Giacomo has applied and been accepted to top scoring programs such as USC Thornton and Columbia College Chicago - we wish him all the best moving forward in his scoring career.

BIO:
Born and raised in Rome, Giacomo is an emerging media composer whose work blends electronic innovation with cinematic orchestral depth. After relocating to Milan to study at SAE Institute, he began scoring short films, web series, and video games, building a diverse portfolio early in his career. He has contributed to multiple television productions aired on Italy’s national broadcaster RAI, collaborating closely with composer and mentor Matteo Buzzanca. His music fuses modern electronic textures with classical sensibility, creating immersive soundscapes that are both emotionally driven and sonically distinctive. Giacomo has further developed his craft under the guidance of internationally recognized composers including Penka Kouneva, Jeff Beal, Ryan Shore, Lawrence Shragge, Patrick Kirst, Sofia Degli Alessandri, and Bryan Senti.

We’re proud to welcome our Faculty Member: Penka Kouneva 🎼

Grammy-winning composer and top studio orchestrator Penka Kouneva has worked in Hollywood for 25 years scoring television (Dragon Age Absolution, Pandora series), films (Aga, Encounter, Tarika), video games (Legends of Runeterra, Prince of Persia) and theme parks (NASA). On IMDB, she has 170+ credits. Her recent orchestrator credits include Moana 2 and Juror #2.

Penka holds a Duke University Ph.D. in composition and is known as a great mentor who’s helped 100+ young film and game composers cultivate remarkable Hollywood careers and become top studio composers.

We’re so happy to welcome our Faculty Member: Robbie Teehan 🎸

Robbie Teehan is a Canadian composer with 15 years experience, known for award-winning indie dramas and documentaries, including Scarborough, winner of 8 Canadian Screen Awards including Best Picture, the documentary Bottle Conditioned directed by Academy Award nominee Jerry Franck, the documentary Below the Belt produced by Hilary Rodham Clinton, and the documentary The Babushkas of Chernobyl. For five years he apprenticed with composer Sean Callery in Los Angeles and contributed to many major network TV series. A multi-award-winning composer and producer, Simon recently scored Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar:
Fire and Ash, continuing his work on one of the most iconic film franchises of all time. His credits span some of the highest-grossing films ever, alongside collaborations with visionary directors like Antoine Fuqua and Terrence Malick.

Before transitioning into film scoring, Simon built an extraordinary career as a producer and arranger, working with artists such as Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, The Weeknd, and Quincy Jones.
