The bond between KLANG and Romaeuropa Festival deepens with this new ULTRA CLUB appointment, another step into sound territories that stay other, lateral, unclassifiable.
Here, “songform” becomes the target: KLANG drags it into a downward spiral, warping it until it folds in on itself and gives birth to new, pulsing musical matter. The result is a living, unstable landscape, run through by visions no label can hold — the drum-driven emotional tension of jonathan j. ludvigsen, the dizzying electronic mutation of EMMA, the chasmic genre collisions of .

EMMA (EMMA) translates disparate influences into visceral music, made with heart and the rage of the present. Ghosts and shadows chase each other across anxious beats, but what always wins is a deep sense of humanity struggling to be heard: raw electronics and a sultry flow, ready to carve a bottomless pit into our feelings. He broke through Italy’s underground scene with “ERA” and “ERA LA FINE” (2023), before exploding live on stages like MI AMI, Poplar, Ypsigrock, and Spring Attitude. After his first national club tour (supporting hyperpop star 2HOLLIS) and an open-air slot alongside The Prodigy at AMA Festival, EMMA released “ERA L’INIZIO” in 2025 — closing the trilogy with a disquieting live-manifesto, “!!!UCCIDI EMMA!!!”, a stark indictment of the music industry’s logic. Death and rebirth, in search of new ways to exist as an artist — and as a human being. Restless, brash, impossible to look away from.

Besides our Ultra Club curated night on September 24th (featuring , EMMA and jonathan j. ludvigsen), this year’s KLANG collaboration with Romaeuropa Festival extends to an extremely rare and truly unmissable live appearance: the astounding project OSMIUM (OSMIUM).

Born from the encounter of four musicians coming from widely divergent trajectories, OSMIUM sits in a borderland between sonic performance, instrumental experimentation and the artisanal construction of sound. More than a concert, it’s an electroacoustic device in which self-built instruments, body, voice, feedback and technology continually redefine the relationship between human gesture and mechanical response.

* James Ginzburg (James Ginzburg) — 1/2 of emptyset, founder of and one of the key figures of the experimental electronic scene worldwide — intervenes with a monochord developed for the occasion.
* Rully Shabara (Shabara), voice of the cult experimental Indonesian project Senyawa, pushes vocal emission toward a guttural, preverbal territory.
* Sam Slater (Sam Slater), award-winning composer and brilliant sound sorcerer, works with a self-oscillating percussion instrument.
* Hildur Guðnadóttir (Hildur Guðnadóttir), multiple award-winning composer and cellist, plays the halldorophone, generating unstable loops.

What emerges is a raw, magnetic sonic matter, where the stage becomes a field of tension, a place where sound continuously produces, alters and destabilizes the action itself.
Being one of our greatest obsessions since we had the chance to see their first ever performance at Unsound Festival, this is one you don’t want to miss.

KLANG returns to Romaeuropa Festival’s ULTRA CLUB, continuing a shared trajectory devised around exploring sound worlds that are other, lateral, unclassifiable.
For this new collaboration, KLANG x Ultra Club builds a downward spiral where “songform” warps and collapses in on itself toward new, pulsing musical matter. A living, unstable landscape takes shape, crossed by visions that escape all labels: the drum-driven emotional tension of jonathan j. ludvigsen, the dizzying electronic mutation of EMMA, the chasmic genre collisions of .

aya (), from the Pennines region in the North Atlantic, is among the most unpredictable and magnetic voices of the present — fusing soundsystem culture, delocalized internet scenes, and post-hardcore drift into a language that’s abrasive, physical, profoundly emotional. Every live performance becomes matter in continuous combustion.
Her 2021 debut LP ‘im hole’ earned wide critical acclaim, including Pitchfork’s “Best New Music.” But it’s with her sophomore ‘hexed!’ (Hyperdub, 2025) that aya reaches full artistic maturity — unanimously hailed “Album of the Year” by The Wire, The Quietus, and Mixmag, while landing top twenty on nearly every major year-end list.
Visionary, cathartic, impossible to predict.

A few snapshots from KLANG: NEST, our season closing at the mesmerizing MAAM () as part of IPER Festival (), with the absolutely stunning site-specific quadraphonic performances of DIACRONIE Ensemble (), and Ziúr + Cosimo Damiano (, ).

It’s been a very long and intense season, actually KLANG’s most packed one in several years, with 20+ events in eight months.
We crafted three different concept-series, while running plenty of beautiful collaborations and partnerships: different places, different people, different sounds. Countless precious moments we are proud to have shared with you all.
It’s been beautiful, enthralling and poignant — a bit exhausting nonetheless.

Against all odds, we strongly want to continue to believe that what we do is an important act of sharing and disclosing, as well as a way to open new pathways in how we see the world and ourselves, prompting new relationships, new communities and new ideas.
Sound and music are the powerful lens through which we try to decode the complexity of the world and the time we live in, as well as our tool of choice to portray the deep meanings they carry within.

This is the reason why we are still here, striving to discover and share what we consider the sharpest and most piercing sound visions out there.
But, most of all, we are here to THANK YOU for this incredible season: for taking part in our daring sound journeys, for grasping the very point at the core of our practice.

Lot is already cooking.
See you very very soon.

Yours truly,
KLANG.

The playful and creative approach to musical instruments, beyond any written rule or canonic practice, has always been one of our top inspirations.
It’s around this very concept that, together with Diacronie, our 𝐊𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐆: 𝑻𝑶𝒀𝑺 series was born ― chasing the crispiest attitudes and the sharpest ideas around what a sound instrument could possibly be.

From the voice of and to the percussions of and , from the winds of and to the piano of and & , we had the chance to push the envelope of these “sound toys”, in service of fresher and wider visions.

No setting would have suited better than the dreamlike halls of Teatro di Documenti (.di.documenti), whose spellbinding aura made every frequency resonate like an enchantment.

THANK YOU ALL for being part of our sonic journeys!
See you very very soon with the last few goodies of the season 🩶

Inside the unique and astounding context of MAAM (), as part of the “SUPER LIEUX” edition of IPER Festival (), we are shaping a fictional and speculative non-place as a sonic reflection around the theme of “dwelling”. Together with the priceless partnership of Diacronie (), Cortile della Luna will be temporarily transmuted into a quadraphonic and immersive architecture, where sound is the pivotal element to inhabit and feel.

Within this ephemeral sound building, in the role of both designers and dwellers, Ziúr (), Cosimo Damiano (), and DIACRONIE Ensemble (, , , , ) will present site-specific quadraphonic performances, reflecting through the sound medium on the relationship between space and presence, between places and meanings, between people and lieus.

Glimpses from the last episode of our 𝙠𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙜: 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗱𝗼 series ― wandering through the most visionary ‘urban’ sound.
It’s been a long and exciting journey, unveiling some of the most brilliant artists out there and showcasing their unique vision, while re-defining the borders of what ‘urban sound’ is and, most of all, can actually stand for.

We couldn’t aim for a better closing, as the truly unbelievable performance of LINTD (), together with Porter Brook (porter_brook__), embodied the very spirit of the whole concept itself, but taking it to the next level of intensity and emotion.

THANKS to Rhizome (.rm) for being such a beloved partner in this path, taking care of the always enlightening chats with the artists by the one and only , as well as all the delightful sound selections.
THANKS to La Redazione () for all the priceless support, becoming our free playground for sound adventures and speculative picturing.
Most of all, THANK YOU ALL for taking part to our projects and joining our music explorations 🩶

By the way, the season isn’t closed yet!
See you on Friday, May 8th at Chiesa di Santa Maria Immacolata all’Esquilino for the stunning performance of Abdullah Miniawy Trio (), presented together with partners in crime Flaming Creatures & Trenta Formiche (, ).
