Velo-city is the yearly flagship event of the European Cyclists' Federation where advocates, cities, policymakers, researchers and industry leaders meet to shape the future of cycling and sustainable urban development. The conference is co-organised with a different city every year. Velo-city 2025 takes place in Gdansk, Poland, from 10-13 June under the theme 'Energizing Solidarity'. Join us!

Born in 2011 to share Ehime’s charm with the world, Mican’s name blends “mikan” (Ehime’s beloved tangerines) with the English word “can”. This positive and forward-looking spirit is exactly what we are bringing to next year's edition of the conference.

📢 Theme reveal 📢

In Japanese, Kyōsei means “co-existence”, “symbiosis”, or “living and working together for the common good”. This spirit lies at the heart of Velo-city 2027 Ehime.

In a world facing growing division, we need new ways to live together — embracing differences and creating spaces where everyone belongs. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽

Cycling has the power to connect people. It brings health, purpose and friendship, while offering a human-centred way to move through our communities. With a cycling modal share of around 12%, Japan is already showing what a cycling society can look like. 🚲⭐

At Velo-city 2027, we will explore how to co-create a future with cycling: one where streets are shared, communities are connected, and people of all backgrounds can thrive together.

It’s always exciting to see how each host city transforms the Velo-city logo into a unique concept, blending the bicycle with the local culture and identity. The Velo-city 2027 Ehime logo is no exception. Here’s the story behind its design elements:

🏯 Castle: The design is inspired by traditional Japanese castles, including the Matsuyama Castle, which overlooks the City of Matsuyama — capital of Ehime Prefecture, and where Velo-city 2027 Ehime will be held.

🎌 The Hinomaru: Japan’s national flag, featuring a red circle on a white background that symbolises the sun and Japan’s identity as the "Land of the Rising Sun."

⛰️🌊 Mountains and sea: The blue and green gradient in the bicycle wheel reflects Ehime’s natural landscape, where mountains meet the sea.

From Rimini’s Parco del Mare to New York’s High Line, yesterday showed that creating a cycle path, pedestrian promenade, or green space is about so much more than infrastructure. These projects can transform cities, making them healthier, more attractive, more resilient, and stronger economically. 🚲🌳❤️

🏛️🧓 Augustus Arch - erected in 27 BC, it is the oldest surviving Roman arch in Italy and marks the ancient entrance to the city. Bike through it for a scenic entrance to !

🌅🎣 Borgo San Giuliano - a charming fishermen’s district with colourful houses and murals. A human-sized mix of tradition, art, and authentic local life.

🎥🏰 Castel Sismondo - a massive 15th-century fortress, now home to the Fellini Museum. Its fully pedestrian plaza is a a beauty for the eyes.
