Congratulations to the University Singers on an extraordinary concert opening the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. Amidst the packed Cattedrale di Sant’Agapito in the town of Palestrina were the President of the Palestrina Foundation, the Bishop of Palestrina and Tivoli, the Abbot Primate of the Benedictine Confederation, and many others, all of whom loved your performance of both their beloved Palestrina and our traditional American music. As Dr Mehaffey said to the audience, it’s been a long journey and a lot of studying to realize the dream of honoring Palestrina in his hometown, but there you finally were. Bravo tutti!

Chengdu is also home to the International Sister Cities Youth Music Festival, returning in-person this August for the first time since 2019. Phoenix will be masterfully represented by the award-winning Kaleidoscope Quartet from the ASU Saxophone Studio!

Summer travel is tough. The University of Tennessee Bands - Pride of the Southland Band departed on five flights from four cities to London for London Band Week yesterday amidst a severe weather warning for the entire southeastern USA.

Hats off to American Airlines for re-routing the band’s one delayed flight to a new gate so that the band members would only have to walk two gates (instead of transfer by train between two distant terminals) to make their connecting flight, which was scheduled to depart only 9 minutes after the first flight arrived.

Local TV coverage in Seville for the Phoenix Children's Chorus’ shared concert with Escalonía de Tomares at the Iglesia de la Caridad. They are singing “Por esto cantamos juntos” (“This is why we sing together”).

We’re on the last night of a 9-night, 8-city tour of Spain with the Phoenix Children's Chorus. This is such a special group of human beings who have brought so much joy to the Spanish audiences.

We made new friends in local choirs of Madrid, Seville, and Barcelona.

The choirs sang in palaces, a castle, the Cathedral-Mosque of Córdoba, and twice in La Sagrada Familia.

We even battled Barbary apes at the Top of the Rock in Gibraltar (we won).

Enjoy them singing their closing anthem, “Why We Sing,” with the vocalists and instrumentalists of VOZES at the Palau de la Virreina on La Rambla in Barcelona. You will enjoy it immensely, just like everyone here in Spain did!
