DAY 40
The last dance

A 40-day journey that comes to an end… and what an ending!
After our visit to the Waterfront di Levante, we headed to Voltri and then to Punta Nave, where the behind-the-scenes team — the people who made this whole experience possible — were waiting for us. Meeting them in person was a truly special moment.

We also had the privilege of visiting the archives of the Fondazione Piano in Voltri, where we witnessed the incredible work done by Shunji, Nicoletta, and the rest of the team to document not only the final projects, but the entire design process that led to them.

These efforts are beautifully showcased at the Fondazione space just below the RPBW office in Punta Nave, where Chiara — joined by Milly and Lia Piano — guided us through a journey across Renzo Piano’s work. It was a true immersion into his thinking and the evolution of his architecture.

After a lunch shared with the entire team — from Fondazione Piano, Proviaggi Architettura, and Professione Architetto — we finally reached the place we had all been waiting for: the RPBW office at Punta Nave.

Three ongoing projects were presented to us by architects at RPBW. We then had the immense opportunity to exchange with Renzo Piano himself. He was deeply curious about our trip and what we had learned from it.

He reminded us how precious it is to travel, to discover, to see projects in person — essential steps in building what he calls “a sense of belonging.”

Renzo Piano once said: “Architecture brings people together.”
Thank you for bringing us together.
Thank you Milly, Shunji, Chiara, Nicoletta for making the Fondazione Piano what it is. Thank you Fundacion Botin and Vitra for making this trip happen.
Thank you Roberto, Klevisa, and the rest of the Proviaggi team for the organization.
Thank you Professione Architetto for following our adventure.
And finally many thanks to all the people we met along the way; this trip wouldn’t have been the same without you!

DAY 39
Waterfront di Levante, Genoa

Today we had the pleasure of visiting the Waterfront di Levante, currently in its final phase of construction.
As part of the broader transformation of Genoa’s coastline, the project aims to reconnect the historic city center to the sea. This specific portion of the intervention seeks to restore the relationship between the water and Genoa’s ancient city wall, while unifying the once fragmented industrial harbor. A continuous public “Topos” — a two-level promenade — ties together the site’s diverse buildings, creating a new sense of cohesion and openness.

A big thank you to Mattia for guiding us through the site and sharing valuable insights into the project.

DAY 32
Sydney Opera House, Jørn Utzon

Looking back at our last day in Sydney; we couldn’t leave without visiting its most iconic landmark: the Opera House. It was moving to experience it from the inside, where the harbor views make you feel as though you’re aboard a ship.

Carried by this sense of movement toward the sea, we took a ferry to Manly — the perfect way to close our time here.

DAY 31
Sydney, Australia

- International Towers, RSHP

- Art Gallery of New South Wales, SANAA

Today's visits revealed two ways of building by the water: SANAA’s gallery gently merges with the hillside, offering a quiet retreat into art and nature, while RSHP’s towers line the bay with structure and clarity, opening the city to its harbor.

DAY 30
One Sydney Harbour & Aurora Place, Sydney

Today we had the chance to visit two RPBW projects that shape Sydney’s skyline. Although designed at different times, both embody the same principles: openness, permeability, and a strong connection to their surroundings.

Thanks to Adam for taking the time to show us around One Sydney harbour and share insights about the work behind it!

DAY 29
Kioi Seido, Hiroshi Naito

On our last day in Tokyo, we visited Kioi Seido by Hiroshi Naito — a project that stood out.

Kioi Seido is an undefined space. Naito described it as a building without a use — and perhaps that’s precisely its purpose. Freed from function, it lets you fully experience the space and its contrasts: the glass and concrete of the façade; the ground floor — a dark, cave-like space — and the upper levels, bathed in natural light from above.

Here, light becomes the protagonist — the only link to the outside, as you’re enveloped in Kioi Seido’s calm, away from Tokyo’s buzz.

DAY 29
Omote-sando, Tokyo

- Nezu Museum, Kengo Kuma
- SunnyHills, Kengo Kuma
- Prada, Herzog & De Meuron
- MiuMiu, Heroz & De Meuron
- Hugo Boss, Norihiko Dan
- Dior, SANAA
- Luis Vitton, Jun Aoki

Looking back at yesterday, the Omotesando district in Tokyo shows a strong contrast: bold, modern buildings by international brands alongside the quiet Nezu Museum, surrounded by a traditional Japanese garden that offers a break from the busy city.
