"There's still no Google Translate for sign language": Handy Signs is here to change that.
We spoke with Emanuele Chiusaroli, CEO and founder of Handy Signs, in an interview conducted by Veronica Maffei.
Over 70 million people in the world are deaf. Yet public institutions, businesses, and digital services still lack real tools to communicate with them: sign language interpreters are scarce, expensive, and no mainstream AI model can effectively translate signs.
The breakthrough? Building from scratch the technology that was missing: a proprietary Italian Sign Language (LIS) dataset, a real-time recognition app, and an avatar that translates spoken or written text into sign language — with the goal of scaling across 140+ sign languages worldwide.
Handy Signs' vision is simple and radical: a world where no one gets left behind.
