FOCUS ON Judith Sánchez Ruíz

Judith Sánchez Ruíz has a well-established reputation for creating enthralling and pioneering choreography, becoming the first commissioned guest choreographer for the Trisha Brown Dance Company in its 53-year history. Her contribution to dance and choreography has left an influential mark on today’s international dance arts scene.
Sánchez held a guest visiting professorship at Weißensee Kunsthochschule, Master Arts Programme “Spatial Strategies” Berlin, 2020, and lectured and assisted artistically at the Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT) Berlin, Bachelor programme - Dance, Context, Choreography from 2019 to 2021. She is an established teacher at major institutions of higher education in dance across Europe, the US, Latin America, and Asia.
Born in Havana, Cuba, she began studying dance at the National School of Arts at age 11. Over her career, she has worked with Sasha Waltz & Guest (2011-2014), Deborah Hay (2012), Trisha Brown Dance Company (2006-2009), DD Dorvillier (2002, 2019), David Zambrano (1997), Mal Pelo Company (1997-1999), and DanzAbierta Company (1991-1996).
Since 2010, her Judith Sánchez Ruíz Company has shared her improvisation and performance research worldwide through institutions, festivals, and companies. She has created many stage and site-specific works performed globally
