🔥💙🎶🎸🤙😎🔥
“Boppin’ the Blues” is a 1956 rockabilly classic written by Carl Perkins and Howard Griffin. Released on Sun Records, it features Perkins’ signature driving guitar sound, syncopated rhythm, and lyrics about finding relief from the blues by hitting the jukebox and hitting the dance floor. Background and InspirationThe song tells the story of a man who is “rhythm-bound”. Despite being deeply in love, he just has an uncontrollable urge to dance and bop to the music. In a famous spoken/sung exchange in the lyrics, Perkins visits a doctor, but rather than getting a medical prescription, he is told that a handful of nickels for a jukebox is the only cure. The upbeat lyrics even mention an old man named Don throwing away his crutches after getting “rhythm and blues”.
It is considered a cornerstone of early rockabilly and has been covered by many artists including Ricky Nelson, Gene Vincent, and Brian Setzer and also the Monokids… of course !
