From the Desk of Score&MORE
by Dr Gopichand.
Hi all,
I’ve seen this post on few occasions earlier. I’m as sure that you all too would’ve seen it, on quite a number of repeat forward in social media.
Since this is a sports related & sporting group, let me share a complimenting tangent.
Like any else Usain Bolt too would be disheartened to put efforts to pursue any other activity in any other domain. That is, in my view, he’d be. Why so? Why I’d say so?
Now,
100 mt Olympic Run is a ‘specified & timed event.’ It has norm, form and defined conduct. The process of entering, qualifying, competing in fair play and winning are established. Above all the acknowledgment is incremental all the way through the 4 years and at various interim competitions. The result at achieving the 9 sec or non-record other timing too is vividly clear - the immediate claps & ensuing accolades, the rewards & awards, the aftermath cooling and else are vividly & amply clearer.
Take these all off and see how can one practice for 4 years with as much diligence & discipline.!
Or, Bolt pursue any other sport or activity that is NOT standardised in format & norms and he’ll immediately know what I’m sharing.
Usain Bolt himself might not have made these remarks and some one else might’ve attributed these to his Persona. My sharing here too is NOT as much towards him as much it is towards the ‘statement.’
Enough about short-coming part of the statement. What’s the solution? What do I offer as option if not solution?
Keep the intent, dream and objective as much and build up as much determination and discipline. AND try to build the external framework of metrics - in terms of recording the effort and noting the timing & time. This is different from data entering regarding training modules - which all go into input segment. I’m mentioning about facets of output.
IF there is structured format higher & elsewhere and such doesn’t happen ‘here,’ we’ll need to improve to sustain training & measuring too AND get to that norm ‘time to time’. ( example Golf, shooting, fencing, sailing etc. in sports. )
IF such format & norm is tooooooo distant and higher and expensive - no need to give up yet improvise to continue putting efforts ( input as well as output ) ‘document it all’ and keep sharing with officials and media - even if they do NOT respond immediately & affirmingly. Everything has an incubation period and a threshold and it includes admin / media too. AS IMPORTANT is to build up ‘other than sporting milestones’ in terms of fitness and socialness so that the effort is rewarded with intangible & priceless satisfaction and tangible social results too.
The essence is in the 4 years as much as how the 4 years is structured with support, system and metrics. There is a process for continuing to put an effort at the end of 4 years ‘even if the timing achieved is 18 seconds.’ It will be a record less known yet it may be a record most valued in a specific context for a specific group which may sparkle NeXT Level upgrade of Sports & Social in that region. ( PM’s remarks about the Fencing Soortswoman this year )
We have to extract meaning and add metrics - in terms of time, timing and format related. Innovate & Improvise as needed yet ‘keep documenting it all.’ Because some one else may ‘take note’ of the documentation, understand the happening, assess the need and empower the NeXT Step Happening.

A Sub tangent into Genetics, now..
After all, Gregory Mendel was a monk who checked heights of pea saplings, crossed the seeds and did the same again. ONLY he documented the findings. Some one else, after many many many years took the data, compiled and applied statistics ( made TT tt & 2X2 charts ) and we have ‘Genetic Basis of Inheritance.’ A whole revolution from that has affected the entire human race.
Just let’s ask - IF Mendel hasn’t documented those findings..!?
Let’s get back to Usain Bolt’s saying (!) now.

Similarly,
In the day to day hudrum, most players and more coaches - all across the Nation - get exhausted with the day to day training, coaching, efforting to prepare for tournaments and review the results of matches. The ‘day day running’ of these all by ‘enthusiast amateurish ( non-professionally I mean )’ causes exhaustion than exhilaration. It can cause erosion of emotion and financial burning out too.
Cutting it all short, the 2 things of 1. Adding Metrics to the effort ‘per the format’ ( or improvise with it AND 2. Documenting the process & outcomes in an orderly format ( not just the progress of individual ) will help a lot.
Then,
Some one else may achieve
