World Day of Social Justice is observed on 20 February each year to highlight the importance of fairness equality and inclusion for all people. The 2026 theme Empowering Inclusion: Bridging Gaps for Social Justice emphasises that social justice cannot be achieved without inclusive systems and opportunities for everyone. Social justice covers access to education employment healthcare human rights and protections that enable people and communities to live with dignity and respect. Despite progress many individuals still face exclusion from opportunities due to poverty discrimination and unequal systems. This World Day of Social Justice let’s commit to bridging gaps supporting inclusion and advocating for fairness in everyday life.

✨ Anti-Leprosy Day 2026 ✨
Today we stand together to break the stigma, spread accurate awareness, and support early detection and treatment of leprosy a curable disease once treated early.
Leprosy still affects many communities, but with knowledge, compassion, and care, we can ensure dignity and inclusion for all.
Let’s honour the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and work towards a world free of fear and discrimination. 🤝

🗓 Observed in India every year on 30 January to coincide with Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary a reminder of his lifelong compassion for people affected by leprosy.

We were honoured to be part of Savishesha Carnival of the Different, Kerala’s unique festival celebrating inclusion, ability and creativity across the differently-abled community 🌟.

Organised by the Social Justice Department, Government of Kerala, Savishesha 2026 brought together sports, arts, culture, exhibitions, job fairs and skill-building activities under one vibrant platform. The three-day event in Thiruvananthapuram offered opportunities for persons with disabilities to showcase talent, connect with peers, and express their creativity in dance, music, theatre and more.

From inclusive performances to skill development activities and exhibits celebrating diverse abilities, the festival highlighted that difference is not a limitation but a strength. Our I-YwD stall was a vibrant space where we interacted with participants, shared information about our programme and supported youth with disabilities in their journey towards innovation and empowerment.

Savishesha also featured events like job fairs that empower differently-abled jobseekers and open dialogues on inclusion. Our participation reaffirmed our commitment to building opportunities, breaking barriers and fostering an inclusive community where every person’s potential is recognised and celebrated.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared stories, and celebrated diversity with us. Let’s continue working together to make inclusion real, visible and meaningful every day! 💛

Not all disabilities are visible. Many people live with invisible disabilities such as learning differences, autism, mental health conditions, chronic pain, fatigue, hearing loss, low vision, or neurological conditions. Because these experiences are not immediately apparent, people often face disbelief, stigma, and denial of support. True inclusion begins with listening, believing lived experiences, and creating flexible systems that allow participation without judgement. At I-YwD, we believe acknowledging invisible barriers is essential to building inclusive innovation and equal opportunity for all.

Human Rights Day (10 December) marks the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. The 2025 theme, Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials, reminds us that rights such as dignity, education, health, safety, and participation are not optional - they are necessities for everyday life. Yet many people still face violations and exclusion, including children out of school, survivors of violence, and persons with disabilities facing inaccessible spaces. This Human Rights Day, I-YwD reaffirms its commitment to building inclusive, accessible opportunities so that rights are experienced every day.

November 26 marks Constitution Day, celebrating the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1949. The Constitution guarantees justice, liberty, equality and dignity for all citizens. Articles 14, 15 and 16 ensure equality before law and non-discrimination, while Article 21 guarantees the right to life with dignity. These principles support the legal rights of persons with disabilities, which are further protected under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. On Constitution Day, we honour the values that shape our democracy and reaffirm our responsibility to build an inclusive, accessible and equitable India for everyone.

November 25 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women — a reminder that violence is one of the most widespread human rights violations globally. According to WHO, 1 in 3 women face physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, and the numbers are even higher for women with disabilities, who face barriers in reporting, accessing justice, and receiving support. Violence can be physical, emotional, financial, digital, or systemic, and its impact lasts generations. Ending violence requires education, awareness, stronger protections, accessible support systems, and a society that stands with survivors rather than silencing them. Every woman deserves safety, dignity, and freedom. Together, we can help create a world free from violence.

National Education Day is observed on November 11 to honour Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Education Minister, who envisioned universal access to education. Yet, UNESCO reports that children with disabilities are 19 % less likely to reach minimum reading proficiency, showing the continued need for inclusion. At I-YwD, we believe education and innovation can together dismantle barriers and build a society where learning is accessible to everyone. Let’s celebrate this National Education Day by committing to education that includes, empowers, and transforms.
