Zone Babey Girls Display Athletic Excellence at Inter-School Meet
Babey (Thial Choughan), May 13:
Young athletes from across Zone Babey showcased remarkable sporting talent and enthusiasm during the U-14 and U-17 Girls Zonal Level Inter-School Competitions organised by the Office of the Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO), Babey, at Thial Choughan on Wednesday. The event witnessed spirited participation in athletics and cricket disciplines, reflecting the growing culture of sports and physical fitness among school students in the zone.
Held under the patronage of Director Youth Services and Sports, Smt. Anuradha Gupta, with the guidance of the District Youth Services and Sports Office Udhampur and overall supervision of ZPEO Babey, Sdr. Pushpinder Kour, the tournament drew participation from 116 students representing various Government institutions. Of them, 64 students competed in the U-14 category, while 52 students participated in the U-17 category.
The competitions witnessed energetic performances, sportsmanship, and impressive athletic talent displayed by the young participants.
Among others present on the occasion were Sh. Mohan Singh PEM, Gian Singh PEM, Joginder Paul PEM, Daleep Singh PEM, Satish Chander PET, Mohan Lal Gupta PET, Rajesh Verma PET, Nisha Sharma PET, Jagdev Singh PET, Bishan Singh PET, Narinder Singh PET, Bhoophinder Kumar PET, Vijay Kumar PET, Kamal Kishore PET, Deepak Sharma REK, Anuj Jandial REK, Narinder Singh REK, Mukesh Sandla and Pardeep Kumar REK.

Summer Volleyball Coaching Camp begins in Poonch, over 60 youth participate

POONCH, May 12: A summer volleyball coaching camp organized by Shaheed DySP Manjit Singh Memorial Volleyball Club in collaboration with the Poonch District Volleyball Association commenced with great enthusiasm in Poonch, witnessing the participation of more than sixty boys and girls from different areas of the district.
The coaching camp aims to promote volleyball among the youth and provide professional training opportunities during the summer vacation. Young players, including both boys and girls, attended the opening session with excitement and zeal, reflecting the growing popularity of volleyball in the region.
On the occasion, DySP Azhar Ameen attended the event as the chief guest. Addressing the participants, he appreciated the efforts of the organizers for taking such an important initiative to engage youth in positive and healthy activities. He highlighted the importance of sports in building discipline, confidence, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle among young people.
DySP Azhar Ameen particularly praised Chairman of the Club, Mohd Tariq for his dedication and continuous contribution towards the development of volleyball in Poonch district. He said that organizing such coaching camps would help in identifying talented players and preparing them for higher-level competitions in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohd Tariq said that the camp would provide systematic coaching and guidance to budding volleyball players under experienced trainers.
He expressed hope that the initiative would encourage more youth to actively participate in sports and stay away from social evils.
The opening day event concluded with a warm welcome to the participants and a commitment by the organizers to continue promoting sports activities in the district for the benefit of the younger generation.

Sainik School Nagrota Emerges Runners-Up at IPSC Basketball Championship

JAMMU, May 12: Sainik School Nagrota brought laurels to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir by securing the runners-up position at the prestigious IPSC Basketball Championship 2026 in the U-17 Boys category held from May 8 to May 10 at Pestle W**d School, Dehradun.

The championship witnessed participation from 21 reputed schools from across the country, making the tournament highly competitive and challenging. Displaying exceptional teamwork, discipline, determination and sportsmanship, the cadets of Sainik School Nagrota clinched the Overall Second Position and won the runners-up trophy.

The team delivered impressive performances throughout the tournament with convincing victories against several top schools. Sainik School Nagrota defeated Sainik School Kunjpura by 30-15, Welham Boys School by 29-11 and Birla Public School by 43-19.

In one of the most thrilling matches of the championship, the team edged past MNSS Rai with a closely fought score of 47-44.

The cadets also displayed commendable fighting spirit against strong opponents including Mann School and the host institution, Pestle W**d School, earning appreciation for their professional conduct and sportsmanship on the court.

The achievement reflects the high standards of sports training and holistic development being imparted at Sainik School Nagrota.

The Principal, staff and cadets congratulated the basketball team for their remarkable accomplishment and for bringing pride and honour to both the institution and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
