Conservation Education Centre (CEC), Mumbai The CEC has been operational since 1997. The Centre’s anthill-like building intrigues every visitor.

The mission of the BNHS is ‘Conservation of Nature, primarily biological diversity, through actions based on Research, Education and Public Awareness’. The Conservation Education Centre (CEC), situated amidst wilderness, represents the education wing of the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS). On the event of its centenary celebration, the Government of Maharashtra leased out 33-acres of forest

land to BNHS for the purpose of educating the masses on conservation. The wild outdoors around CEC mesmerize all who walk its paths and breathe its fresh air. People from all walks of life visit the Centre throughout the year, and more than 15,000 people participate in a variety of conservation education activities conducted there. The CEC is surrounded by a sprawling, undulating forest which changes with every season. Its proximity to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park is an added bonus, for much of the rich plant and animal life there flows into the Centre’s environs. The CEC conducts daily activities for school groups, including nature trails, AV presentations and conservation-centred quizzes and games. It also holds special environmental education training programmes for teachers as well as environmental training for corporates, towards Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR).
