The race might be over, but our promise to the cause is not.
NITK karavali Marathon has recognised the dire need to educate and create awareness about how we human beings affect the environment through our ignorant habits and thus chose the theme, Combat Climate Change.
And as one of the initiatives, the NITK Karavali Marathon team has taken up GREEN ADOPTION, where we will try and inculcate green habits among students of primary school through interactive learning methods and aids provided to us by our NGO partner APD. We believe that changes have to brought in at the grass root levels and responsible citizens are developed early on.

As of now, we have adopted 3 schools:
>Vidyadayinee English Medium School
>NITK English Medium School
>Holy Family School

We will be holding multiple sessions year after year and plan to keep adding to this list of schools in the future.

Once again thank you all for making the Marathon a huge success and hope that we all do our part to Combat Climate Change.

Race day is inching closer. You have trained well, but there's still some time and distance before the finish line. What you do the week before a race can directly affect your performance on the day of the race.
So here are some tips to help you finish feeling your best:

• You should decrease your training volume by 30-50% of your normal mileage in the last week. This gives your muscles a chance to rebuild and restore rather than stressing them with increased mileage. But don't stop exercise altogether. Go on shorter, easier runs.

• Avoid strength training. Fatigued or sore muscles can affect your run negatively. But continue mobility and stretching exercises.

• Eat healthy, balanced meals this week - vegetables, fruits, complex carbohydrates, protein. Avoid oily food and junk/fast food. Don't try any major dietary changes.

• Get good sleep. Ensure you're giving your body rest and time to recover and repair. Late night partying or studying might not be such a good idea.

• Avoid high-caffeine and alcoholic drinks, especially 1 or 2 days before the race. This will prevent dehydration.

• Prepare your race gear. Set out your clothes, shoes, watch, make your playlist if you listen to music on your runs.

• Try to stay calm and not worry to much. Spend time on things you like doing. But remember it's normal to feel nervous before race day. After all you've put in so much effort. Now patiently and strategically get to that finish line!

Run happy, run sad, run long, run short. Just run.

But is "just running" good enough? Not really. Paying attention to your running form is crucial to staying injury-free and being able to run far and long without tiring out so much.

Here are some tips for developing proper form:
Head: Stop looking down at the road. It creates tension in your back and neck. Instead, keep your head high and look straight ahead of you.
Shoulder: Keep your shoulders back and relaxed, neither tense nor pulled up towards your ears.

Arms: Aim to keep your arms bent at an approximate 90 degrees at the elbow. Swing them back and forth and not across the front of your body. Your elbows shouldn't cross your waist (unless you're sprinting). Keep your hands loose and not unnecessarily clenched into tight fists.

Torso: Maintain a tall posture with your back straight and a slight lean forward from the hips. If you feel yourself slouching, take a deep breath to get yourself back to proper form.
Legs: Increasing stride length by reaching forward with your foot both slows you down and sends shock waves up your legs which can lead to injuries such as knee pain. Instead, let slightly bent knees lead your feet. Focus on lifting off the ground rather than pushing off.

Feet: Your feet should land directly under your hips. Focus on landing on the balls of your feet or the midfoot. Try to land and take-off as lightly as you can, with minimum sound.
Finally, your Mind: Stay relaxed and don't stress out. Running won't always be easy, but a calm and happy mind can help you power through all runs.
