Material Innovation Isn’t the Future — It’s Now!

At Design Mumbai, the Smart Materials Lab: Materials! Do Touch!, curated by British designer , invited visitors to explore sustainability in its most tactile, surprising form. From PEELSPHERE, a circular material made from fruit waste, to plant-based leather from tomatoes, Panda P**p Seed Paper, and other cutting-edge innovations from and , the showcase transformed waste into possibility and curiosity into conversation.

Supported by , the lab continues its commitment to meaningful design engagement. After introducing the Himalayan Knot in 2024, 2025 saw the lab champion materials that provoke, inspire, and redefine what design can be.

Reflecting back at one of the most compelling conversations and power-packed panel as a part of the Design Mumbai Talks Exchange programme in 2025, Reimagining Resilient Rivers and Coastlines brought urgency and optimism into the same space—exploring how design can respond to rising waters with intelligence, adaptability and foresight.

Moderated by Editor, Dezeen, the panel moved beyond defence to examine how built environments can work within the fragile ecosystems, ensuring coastal communities and economies continue to evolve, not just endure. With insights Anna Liu and Mike Tonkin from , Co-Founders, Tonkin Liu; Nandini Sampat , Principal Architect, Somaya Sampat; and Saiqa Iqbal, Assistant Professor, Brac University and Partner & Director, Studio Morphogenesis Ltd., alongside Suvro Sovon Chowdhury, Studio Morphogenesis Ltd, shedding light on the topic and encouraging conversation at the show.

As we carry this momentum forward, the third edition of Design Mumbai is set to take place from Thu 19 – Sun 22 November 2026. With preparations already underway, the next chapter promises a more ambitious, tightly curated and immersive experience for the global B2B design community.

From a single point, a new design story unfolds ✨

Hyderabad-based .india has launched its new Bindu Collection, inspired by the work of S. H. Raza and the idea of the bindu — the primordial point believed to be the source of all energy and creation.

Translating this philosophy into furniture, the collection explores balance between movement and stillness, void and form. Sculptural pieces combine traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary design language, shaped by rhythm, restraint, and carefully considered materiality.

Following the launch, Dastkari will return to Design Mumbai 2026, where the studio will debut a new collection alongside its signature finely detailed surfaces.

“We’re glad to return to Design Mumbai this November and are very excited to showcase one of our most unique collections this year. We also have even more unique things planned for the month,” says founder and principal designer

Design Mumbai dates are now officially confirmed to THURSDAY 19 - SUNDAY 22 NOVEMBER 2026, and for the very first time, include a Sunday! The VIP Preview evening will take place on 19th November from 6-10 PM, and open for public standard entry from 20-22 November from 11-7 PM.

This is a power move as the new dates unlock a more accessible and inclusive edition of India’s only international-standard contemporary design exhibition.

FOUR DAYS. ONE CITY. AND NOW, A SUNDAY - welcoming deeper discoveries, longer conversations, and a wider design-loving audience. Visitors can expect more global brands, Indian voices, and true contemporary design - in one premium event.
