How could we possibly be left behind in the Ube trend? 💜

So yes, we’ve started experimenting.

Soft, earthy, subtly sweet and ridiculously pretty — Ube has been on our R&D list for a while, and we’re finally working on our own little series at This Must Be The Place.

We’re still testing, tweaking and figuring out exactly how we want it to taste before it earns a permanent place on the menu.

But for now…

The Ube Series is coming soon.

And judging by the colour alone, this one may be hard to ignore. 😌💜

A year of stories, flavours, conversations and becoming. ❤️

We’re delighted to be featured in The Telegraph t2 as This Must Be The Place turns one — celebrating the food we’ve built, the home we’ve grown from, and the traditions that continue to shape who we are.

From our Big Daddy All-Day Breakfast Platter and Cheesecake Coffee to our Meat Loaf, new beverages and the annual Durga Puja at our family home, this feature captures so much of what the past year has meant to us.

For us, this café has never been just about food. It is part of our home, our family history, and our idea of hospitality — warm, personal and deeply rooted in Calcutta.

Thank you to every guest who has walked through our doors, stayed for a meal, returned with friends, shared feedback, celebrated with us and helped shape this first year.

And thank you, The Telegraph t2ONLINE , Rohini Chokroborty for telling our story so beautifully.

Today, This Must Be The Place steps outside its own walls.

We’re honoured to be a hospitality partner for Woven Stories — A Celebration of Handloom Day, presented by Indian Museum, Kolkata & Calcutta Times .

An afternoon of craft, culture, conversation and stories carried across generations — with coffee, chai and a little something from our kitchen woven into the experience.

For a café that began by creating meaningful gatherings within our own space, this feels like a beautiful way to begin Year 2.

And a special thank you to Supreeta S for helping create opportunities that place our little café in conversations and spaces that truly align with who we are.

Today, we serve somewhere new.
But very much as ourselves.

We’re excited to bring you an evening of conversations, performances and perspectives for this special occasion, that continues to defines our shared heritage greatly.

A year ago, this wasn’t a café.

It was an idea scribbled across notebooks, conversations around the dining table, construction dust, uncertainty, and a stubborn belief that if we built something with enough heart, people would eventually find it.

They did.

Over the last year, this little heritage home has witnessed first dates, birthdays, job offers, heartbreaks, friendships, business plans, books being finished, countless cups of coffee, and far more food than we ever imagined we’d serve.

Some of you walked in as guests.
Many of you quietly became part of our story.

As founders, we couldn’t have asked for a better first year.

Thank you for choosing us, for trusting us with your celebrations, your ordinary afternoons, your milestones, and the conversations you’ll probably never remember—but we always will.

Today, This Must Be The Place turns one.

And if this first chapter has taught me anything, it’s that cafés aren’t really built with bricks, coffee or recipes.

They’re built by people.
Thank you for making ours feel like home.
