There are moments in business that feel quietly special.

Today, our Blueberry Matcha was featured by as one of Kolkata’s standout matcha creations.

To be included in a citywide selection of distinctive matcha drinks is deeply meaningful for us especially because this beverage represents exactly what we love to create.

Unexpected combinations.
Thoughtful craftsmanship.
And flavours that feel both beautiful and balanced.

Our Blueberry Matcha is 100% vegan and brings together the earthy depth of ceremonial-style matcha with the bright sweetness of real blueberries.

The result is indulgent, refreshing, and unmistakably our own.

To everyone who has ordered it, photographed it, recommended it, and returned for it thank you.

And to those who have not tried it yet, this may be your sign.

Doors open at 10 AM, seven days a week.

Breakfast should not look like an apology.

So we built four all-day breakfast platters for the people who like their mornings generous, their coffee strong, and their plates with personality.

The Big Daddy 🥪 shareable for 2, technically.
Grandma’s 🥗 comfort with full-plate confidence.
American 🥞 pancakes included, obviously.
British 🥖 eggs, beans, toast, and excellent manners.

Doors open at 10 AM.
All-day breakfast, seven days a week.

Come hungry.
We’ll set the table.

Today the café was quiet.
Not peaceful quiet.
More like “the entire city is waiting to see who gets the keys to the kingdom” quiet.

Footfall had clearly gone into coalition talks.
The streets were behaving like they were under silent negotiation. And South Kolkata had collectively decided that democracy required staying indoors. So obviously, I did what any rational café founder would do on a politically dramatic, commercially slow day.

I took over the kitchen.

If the city was changing regime, I was changing stock.

Fresh cheesecakes were baked.
Bento cakes were poured.
Cupcakes got their dramatic little crowns.
Biscuits were dressed like they had a manifesto.
Cream rolls were restocked with full confidence.
And the oven delivered a stronger mandate than most exit polls.

Honestly, while everyone else was counting seats, I was counting bake times. While news anchors were discussing swings, I was discussing sponge texture.
While the city held its breath, the kitchen smelled like butter, sugar, and mild political instability.

Because at This Must Be The Place, a dull day is not a loss.

It is an R&D day.
A baking day.
A restocking day.
A “fine, if people won’t come to the café, the café will prepare to attack tomorrow” kind of day.

Governments may change.
Footfall may fluctuate.
Moods may swing.

But the oven remains committed to stable leadership.

Fresh stock is ready.
Breakfast begins at 10 AM.
And yes, the café has officially survived another election-adjacent existential crisis.

Some things aren’t meant to be rushed.
Cold brew is one of them.

Ours sits for 24 hours.
Then it becomes something else.

Jamun that cuts through.
Kacha aam that feels like summer.
Lychee, passion fruit, coconut layered, not loud.

Not trying to impress.
Just doing it properly.

Find your flavour.
Or keep coming back for the same one.

We’ll be here.

Curtain Raiser for “The Farewell Letter” | Associate Partner | A Cultural Evening at This Must Be The Place

This Must Be The Place had the privilege of hosting the official curtain raiser for the theatre production “The Farewell Letter,” ahead of its staging on 2nd May 2026 at Gyan Manch, Kolkata.

As Associate Partner for the play, we were honoured to open our heritage bungalow as a cultural salon — an intimate space where theatre-makers, patrons of the arts, and members of Kolkata’s creative community gathered to experience the first public unveiling of the production’s vision.

The evening went beyond a preview. It was a conversation about storytelling, memory, and performance. It was a reaffirmation of live theatre in a time of digital noise. It was a reminder that art still belongs in shared spaces.

At This Must Be The Place, we are committed to nurturing independent theatre, literature, and performing arts in South Kolkata. Our space is not just a café — it is a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and cultural exchange. From curtain raisers to book launches, artistic showcases to curated gatherings, we actively support creators who shape the city’s intellectual and artistic landscape.

Situated on Rashbehari Avenue inside a 120-year-old heritage home, we continue to position ourselves as a modern cultural hub rooted in legacy — where food, conversation, and art coexist.

We look forward to witnessing “The Farewell Letter” come alive at Gyan Manch and to many more collaborations that strengthen Kolkata’s theatre movement.

For cultural partnerships and curated events, connect with us directly.

Some evenings don’t need to be announced.
They simply unfold.

The Farewell Poem was one of those nights where literature met listening, and words lingered long after the coffee cups were empty.

Our heartfelt gratitude to for holding space with such depth and grace.
To and for curating an evening that reminded us why intimate cultural gatherings still matter.
And to , for quietly connecting every dot that brought this night together.

A special congratulations to all the participants whose farewell letters were read aloud your courage to share, to remember, and to let go made the evening what it truly was. Your words lived in the room.

This Must Be The Place was always imagined as more than a café.
A third space.
A cultural pause.
A home for stories.

Last night, it felt exactly like that.

If you were there you know.
If you weren’t there will be more evenings where conversation, literature and coffee find each other again.
