The Government of India has released the operational guidelines for the Urban Challenge Fund, a new initiative aimed at accelerating infrastructure development in Tier II and Tier III cities.

The fund is intended to support cities in planning and executing projects that improve urban service delivery, enhance infrastructure capacity, and attract private and institutional investment. With a focus on emerging urban centres, the initiative seeks to address regional imbalances in development while strengthening the next wave of urban growth.

The guidelines outline frameworks for project selection, financing structures, and implementation mechanisms, aligning with national priorities around sustainable urbanisation and long-term capacity building.
