Heartiest congratulations to Ms. Kipa Mero for winning the Silver Medal in Women’s F-12 Javelin Event and Shri Tingong Wangpan for securing the Silver Medal in Men’s T-37 Sprint Event at the 8th Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships 2026 held at Bengaluru from 25th to 27th May 2026.

Their outstanding performances have made Arunachal Pradesh proud. The State contingent was led by Shri Techi Sonu as Coach and Shri Takam Pario as Team Manager.

The Executive Members of the Paralympic Association of Arunachal, under the leadership of Shri Ranju Hali, President, held a meaningful and positive meeting with Akshat Kaushal, Special Secretary, Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, at the Civil Secretariat, Itanagar.

During the meeting, the Association submitted an official proposal seeking admission of Para Athletes at Sanghe Ladhen Sports Academy (SLSA), Chimpu for the Academic Session 2026–27 along with issuance of the necessary Government Notification/Order.
The proposal highlighted the urgent need for educational support, hostel accommodation, inclusive sports infrastructure, and residential training facilities for Divyangjan athletes in Arunachal Pradesh. The Association informed that despite limited facilities, Para Athletes from the State have brought pride and recognition by winning medals and representing Arunachal Pradesh at various National and International Championships in disciplines such as Para Athletics, Para Badminton, Para Powerlifting, Para Boccia, Para Shooting, Wheelchair Sports, and Para Taekwondo.

The Association further stated that many talented athletes from remote districts and economically weaker families are facing serious hardship due to the absence of dedicated residential sports and educational support systems within the State.
As part of the first phase initiative, PAA requested admission of eligible Para Athletes at Sanghe Ladhen Sports Academy (SLSA), Chimpu for the Academic Session 2026–27 in order to ensure proper education, accommodation, sports training, and long-term athlete development.

The Association also emphasized its long-term vision to prepare athletes for future International competitions, including the 2028 Paralympic Games at Los Angeles and the 2032 Paralympic Games at Brisbane. The proposal was submitted in accordance with the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016, particularly relating to equality, inclusive education, and promotion of sports participation for persons with disabilities.

During the interaction, Akshat Kaushal assured the Association of his positive support and conveyed that the matter and grievances concerning Para Athletes would be actively pursued with the State Government for necessary consideration and assistance in the greater interest of Divyangjan sports development in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Executive Members expressed their sincere gratitude to the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly the Special Secretary, for giving a patient hearing and showing positive concern towards the welfare, education, and future development of Para Athletes in the State.
The Association remains hopeful that the Government of Arunachal Pradesh will continue extending its visionary support towards strengthening Para Sports, empowering Divyangjan youths, and creating future Paralympians from Arunachal Pradesh.

The Central Executive Body Meeting of the Paralympic Association of Arunachal was successfully convened at Waii International Hotel under the chairmanship of Shri Takam Pario.

The meeting held detailed deliberations on various important matters pertaining to the promotion and development of Para Sports in Arunachal Pradesh. Key agendas discussed during the meeting included the conduct of State Para Games and sports activities, participation of state para athletes in upcoming National and International events, expansion of Para Sports disciplines across the state, strengthening organizational activities for the session 2026–27, athlete welfare initiatives, and enhancement of sports infrastructure for Divyangjan athletes.

The Executive Members also discussed the proposal for the establishment of a Multi-Sport Para Sports Stadium aimed at providing improved training facilities, accessibility, and greater opportunities for para athletes in the state. Emphasis was laid on collective coordination, transparency, athlete-centric development, and long-term strategic planning for strengthening the Paralympic movement in Arunachal Pradesh.

The meeting concluded successfully with a unanimous commitment from all members to work dedicatedly towards empowering para athletes and uplifting the standard of Para Sports in the state.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Pema Khandu convened a comprehensive review meeting of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department to assess the progress of key initiatives and upcoming events across Arunachal Pradesh.
During the meeting, the department’s activity report was thoroughly reviewed, reflecting a strong commitment towards strengthening the overall sports ecosystem in the state.

We express our sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister for announcing and adopting several landmark decisions that will significantly boost the development of para sports:
1. Provision of annual Grant-in-Aid to the Paralympic Association of Arunachal.
2. Financial assistance for the annual conduct of State Para Games
