Day - 2 GAYATRI

During Sri Sharada Saran Navarathi festival Days Aswiyuja suddha Vijaya, the presiding deity Sri Sharadamba at Sringeri Shankarmath-is adorned as GAYATRI.
Gayatri is shown as having five heads. The well known form of Gayatri (Parvati) with the Saivite influence will appear having five heads (Mukta, Vidruma, Hema, Neela, Dhavala) with the ten eyes looking in eight directions plus the earth and sky, and ten arms holding various types of weapons attributed to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. and is usually seated on a red lotus - this signifies wealth. The five faces of Goddess Gayatri symbolize five Pranas i.e. Prana, Apana, Vyana, Udana and Samana. They also symbolize five elements of the universe i.e. the earth, the water, the fire, the air and the sky.The four heads of Gayatri represent the four Vedas, the fifth head represents the almighty God. The weapons held by the ten hands of Gayatri give a divine protection, desired boon to the aspirant, at the same time all the enemies and bad elements working unfavourably against the devotee are killed."
This is why Gayatri Devi is known as the Veda Mata. She is also the patron Goddess of artisans, poets and musicians.

Day 9:-
MAHISASURAMARDINI

On Ninth Day During Sri Sharada Saran Navarathi festival days at Sringeri Shankarmath- Sainikpuri, Sri Vijaya Ganapathi Devalayam, Sainikpuri,Secunderabad on Sunday, which happens to be Aswiyuja suddha Navami, the presiding deity Sri Sharadamba will be adorned as Mahisaasura Mandini Alankaram.
The Alankaram is considered to be the most ‘ugra avataram' (fiery form) of Devi. As she killed Mahisha on Navami it is known as Maharnavami.
the Devas assembled and given their combined divine energies coalesce into goddess Durga. The newborn Durga led a battle against Mahishasura, riding a lion and killed him. Thereafter she is named Mahishasura mardini, meaning the Killer of Mahishasura.
In ‘chandi saptasati’, it is stated Sri Mahalakshmi Devi with ‘ashthadasa bhujas’ (eighteen hands) killed Mahishasura. And over a period of time, she popularly became as Kanaka Durga. She holds a trisula, a trident, in her hand, and rides Tiger. Mahishasura Mardhini, in this appearance, has the powers of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara and armed with different kinds of weapons fought fiercely for nine days.
The legend says, Mahishasura, the king of 'Rakshasas’(demons) defeated Indra, and began torturing everyone. All devatas went to Siva and Kesava along with Brahma urging them to relieve them from tortures of Mahishasura. An enormous beam of light emerged out of all the angry devas and took the form of a woman. The Devas were very pleased and presented her the energies of their powerful godly weapons. Siva gave his trisulam (trident), Varuna gave his Sankham (conch), Yama gave his khadgam (sword), Surya installed all his powerful rays of light in her hair. Thus every Deva gave his power to her. Collecting all those powers, goddess Durga killed Mahishasura’s warriors Chikshurudu, Chamarudu, Udrudu, Bhashkuludu, Bidaludu and others. Durga, wielding the weapons of the gods, goes to battle against Mahishasura riding a lion. Durga cuts off the head of the buffalo demon and kills Mahishasura with her mighty sword. Durga can do this because she is neither man nor god, but a goddess. She beheaded him with the chakra which Vishnu had given her. Thus she freed the world from Mahishasur's tyranny. Indra and the other gods returned to the heavens again, and all was well. Since then, Durga is worshipped during the Navratras and is addressed as Mahishasur Mardini.
The day Goddess Durga killed the wicked demon Mahishasura is celebrated as Vijayadasami . This day is also celebrated as a victory of Good over Evil.

During Sri Sharada Saran Navarathi festival days at Sringeri Shankarmath- Sainikpuri, Sri Vijaya Ganapathi Devalayam, Sainikpuri,Secunderabad on Saturday, which happens to be Aswiyuja suddha Astami.

'Durga' the word symbolises ( The principal hindu goddess of war ) victory over evil. Holding weapons such as sword, spear, chakra, she makes the tiger as her ‘vaahana’, vehicle, ( sardoola vahini ) Durga riding a tiger indicates that She possesses unlimited power and uses it to protect virtue and destroy evil, and is fierce in her looks.Goddess Durga was created to combat the evil demon Mahishasura. The trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva came together to create a powerful female form with ten arms. The devas gave her a copy of their weapons. Himavan, the lord of Himalayas, gifted a Tiger as her mount. When Durga emerged from the waters of the holy Ganga as a spirit, she was given a physical form by all the gods put together.
Goddess Durga is an incarnation of Goddess Parvati.
She is called as Durga as she killed demon Durgamudu or Durgasura . She is first form of aadi prakriti pancha maha swaroopas . The meaning of the Durga in Sanskrit is a fort, which is very difficult to reach.
Like Shiva, Durga is also referred to as “Triyambake” meaning the three eyed Goddess. The left eye represents desire (the moon), the right eye represents action (the sun), and the central eye knowledge (fire).
She is considered as most powerful goddess, mother of the universe, power; she is behind the work of creation, preservation and destruction of the world.

One famous shloka states the definition and origin of the term 'Durga': "Durge durgati nashini", meaning Durga is the one who destroys all distress.
