The devotees of Maa Kamkhya from all over the world has assembled at Kamakhya Dhaam for the annual Ambubachi Mela. It is believed that during this time the earth menstruates and hence the Yoni Peeth of Kamakhya Temple is covered during this time.

The Kamakhya Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas around the world which are the most revered for devotees of the Shakta tradition. Kamakhya is also a hub of Ta***ic traditions.

The Kamakhya Temple dates back to 8th-9th century but was later reconstructed by Koch King Naranarayan and his brother Chilarai in 1565. There are several other temples in the vicinity of Kamakhya temple which are also highly revered.

Along with ancient and medieval structures the Kamakhya Temple also displays modern structures and the journey from an ancient past to modernity can be clearly visibleAmbubachi is one of the biggest festivals of India.

Ensuring the comfort and convenience of the devotees at Ambubachi Mela, government buses have been introduced. From Saturday, the vehicles will carry devotees from their temporary camps to the base gate of Kamakhya Temple starting from 6 am in the morning and will continue till midnight. This endeavour aims to provide smooth transportation services for all the devotees, enabling them to revel in the festivities of Ambubachi Mela.
