Global Stage Meets Cultural Roots: Manobi Deka Brings Assam’s Bihu to World Forum in Kuala Lumpur on April 17:
In a vibrant confluence of global education and cultural pride, Ms. Manobi Deka, Founder of Sparsh Group of Schools and Territory Head (North East) of the Early Childhood Association, represented North East India at the prestigious World Forum for Early Years, held from April 14 to 17 at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
The international conference witnessed the participation of over 650 delegates from 50 countries, making it a powerful platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration in early childhood education. Amidst discussions on pedagogy, technology, and global practices, India’s presence stood out with a strong delegation of 34 educators led by Dr. Swati Popat Vats.
A highlight of the opening ceremony was a moment of great honour, as Ms. Deka felicitated His Highness Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the Crown Prince of Selangor, with a traditional Assamese gamusa. The gesture symbolized respect and cultural pride, beautifully introducing Assam’s heritage on an international stage.
Adding a unique cultural dimension to the global gathering, Ms. Deka later captivated audiences with a graceful performance of Bihu, Assam’s most celebrated festival dance. The performance was part of the closing ceremony segment titled “Taal Se Taal Mila”, where rhythm and diversity merged to reflect the spirit of India’s unity.
Her performance was not just a celebration of Assam’s rich heritage but also a symbolic representation of how local traditions can find resonance on international platforms. As the festival of Bihu coincided with the event, the moment became even more meaningful—bridging geography with emotion and culture with global appreciation.
Throughout the four-day forum, Indian delegates actively contributed to discussions and deliberations, reinforcing the country’s growing influence in the global early childhood education landscape. The participation marked a significant milestone, highlighting India’s commitment to shaping the future of early years education through collaboration and innovation.
Ms. Deka’s dual role—as an educationist and cultural ambassador—left a lasting impression, reminding the world that education, much like culture, thrives when shared beyond borders.
