Khamba Thoibi Jagoi or Khamba Thoibi dance is a folk dance form originating in the ancient Moirang kingdom of Manipur. Based on the 12th-century Meitei epic poem of the same name, the dance depicts the love saga between Khuman prince, Khamba, and Moirang princess, Thoibi.
It is believed that Khamba and Thoibi danced together before Lord Thangjing, a celebrated deity of Moirang for the peace and prosperity of the land.
Khamba Thoibi is also one of the greatest poems in Meitei literature. With 34,000 verses, it is even longer than the Ramayana.
