India’s tourism industry has traditionally been highly reliant on the peak travel periods with places experiencing an influx of tourists during holidays, festivals and good weather. But with travel habits changing and the industry looking for new growth points, off-season tourism is emerging as a major driver to boost the country’s tourism economy. India can encourage more sustainable tourism opportunities by encouraging travellers to visit destinations outside the normal holiday periods, improving business continuity and spreading visitor spend more evenly throughout the year.
There is a huge potential in India to change the face of its tourism economy by integrating off season travel into destination development.
