Chennai Kidathon is a run organised exclusively for kids. The event aims to promote the message of health and fitness amongst young children. It is open to children between 3 and 15 years of age, and the run categories range from 400m to 1600m. ll be utilised for supporting Sanjeevi Primary Health Care Centre, a joint initiative between MCRT 94 and Ford India, which has been providing free primary health care to 400 villages in and around Maraimalai Nagar for the past 15 years, and Freedom through Education, a project to impact the education of under-privileged children, by building classrooms and improving infrastructure in schools. Madras Cosmopolitan Round Table 94 (MCRT 94), is a member of Round table India(RTI), a non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit organisation of young men from varied professional and non-professional backgrounds, who get together and engage in community service and fellowship activities. MCRT 94 raises funds through various fund raising events held throughout the year. 100% of the funds raised are utilised to support various charities. MCRT 94 Foundation supports and undertakes several community service projects directly and in association with other like-minded organisations / supporters. What is this fund raiser for? Funds raised from this event will be utilised for supporting Sanjeevi a free primary health care centre serving over 40 villages in and around Maraimalai Nagar. This centre is a joint initiative between MCRT 94 and Ford India. The primary function of this centre is to offer free medical services to villages that do not have access to good hospital / medical facilities. The centre is 15 years old and has handled more than 3.8 lakh patients thus far providing them with quality primary health care at absolutely no cost. Funds from this event will also be used to support the Freedom through Education initiative: a project to impact the education of under-privileged children, by building classrooms and improving infrastructure in schools. Round Table is also providing educational accessories, health care, vocational and child related programs in schools. In support of this effort, MCRT 94 has taken up specific school projects after a study is done into a school’s current capacity and requirements. The usual recipients are the student community, we support infrastructure development in needy schools, provide much needed materials to needy students. Over the years we have built 4372 classrooms in 1630 needy schools at a cost of approximately Rs.1,10,000,000.
