YMCA Tondiarpet Branch and Sankara Nethralaya jointly organised a Free Eye Camp at YMCA Tondiarpet Branch. The programme began with a prayer by Mr. Salomon, followed by the welcome address delivered by Mr. R. S. Daniel. The Chief Guest address was delivered by Mr. Selwyn Devadoss, Vice-President – Programmes and Activities, YMCA Madras. Mr. Chandrakumar gave a brief introduction about eye care and treatment. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Stephen Raj, Asst. Secretary, YMCA Madras. A total of 78 members benefited from the camp.

The Inter College Oratorical Competition -“ Skillwise Rolling Trophy “on the theme “My Dream India: 2030” was jointly organized by the YMCA Madras – Uni-Y Committee and Women’s Christian College, Chennai, on 11 September 2026 at the Bertha Corfield Auditorium, Women’s Christian College, Chennai. A total of 34 students from 17 colleges participated in the competition.

The programme began with a Prayer Song by the English Department Students, WCC, followed by Tamil Thai Vazthu. The Welcome Address was given by Mr. J. S. Anbu, Chairman, Uni-Y Committee. The inauguration was followed by the address of the Chief Guest, Dr. Lilian I. Jasper, Principal, Women’s Christian College, Chennai. The oratorical competition was then conducted, with students sharing their ideas and dreams for the future of India.

The Prize Distribution Ceremony was held after the competition. Mr. Bastian Babu, CEO – Skillwise, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The First Prize was won by Besty Prinyanka Samuel of Madras Christian College, Tambaram. The Second Prize was won by Siva Sankari of D.G. Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, and the Third Prize was won by S. Sariga Priya of Guru Sree Shanthivijay Jain College, Vepery. The Skillwise Rolling Trophy was won by D.G. Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, for their overall performance in the competition.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Bavani Rekha A., HOD, PG Department of English, followed by the National Anthem by the English Department Students, WCC.

80th Independence Day Celebration 2026

The 80th Independence Day Celebration was held at YMCA Boys Town, Kottivakkam Branch, on 15 August 2026. The programme began with the Opening Prayer led by Rev. S. J. Raju, Vice Chairman, followed by the Welcome Address by Mr. P. S. Selwyn Devadoss, Vice President (Programmes and Activities). The 80th Independence Day Message was delivered by Mr. Vincent Sahayaraj, Vice President. The National Flag was hoisted by Mr. P. Asir Pandian, General Secretary & CEO, YMCA Madras, along with Mr. Vincent Sahayaraj, Mr. P. S. Selwyn Devadoss, Vice President (Programmes and Activities), and Hansem Civil Worker. The Flag Song was presented by the Ymca Boys Town Hr Sec School Students. The Gospel Message was delivered by Sister Beaulah Daniel, Committee Member. Around 170 civil workers and 10 engineers from Hansem also attended the programme. The Closing Prayer was led by Rev. Daniel, Committee Member, followed by the Vote of Thanks by Rev. S. J. Raju. The programme was followed by breakfast fellowship and concluded successfully in a spirit of patriotism, unity, prayer, and fellowship.

The YMCA Madras, Boy’s Town Kottivakkam Branch, successfully organized a Career Guidance Programme on 18 July 2026 at Nellai Nadar Matriculation Higher Secondary School. The programme began with an opening prayer by Rev. A. Daniel, Committee Member, followed by the welcome address by Rev. S. J. Raju, Vice Chairman. Mr. P. S. Selwyn Devadoss, Vice-President (Programme and Activities), YMCA Madras, presented the legacy of the YMCA, and Mr. J. X. Julius Caesar, Principal, introduced the Career Guidance Programme.

The career guidance sessions were delivered by Mr. Jayaprakash Gandhi, Career Consultant, Education Futurist and Dr. Arun Prasanth, Founder and Director, Infinity Doctors Education Council, who inspired the students with valuable guidance on career opportunities and future planning. The programme was attended by 375 students and 25 staff members, followed by a feedback session.

The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. E. Babin, Assistant Secretary, YMCA Madras, Kottivakkam Branch, expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, resource persons, staff members, and students for making the programme a grand success. Refreshments were served to all the participants after the programme.

YMCA Madras, Sathuma Nagar Branch, in association with Kauvery Hospital and Begum Shafia Eye Care, organised a Free Medical & Eye Camp for the local community. The programme commenced with an opening prayer by Mr. Abraham, Secretary. Mr. B. Ravikumar David, Treasurer, YMCA Madras, was the Chief Guest, welcomed the gathering and inaugurated the camp. Around 112 people from the local community registered and underwent eye screening and benefited from the camp. The programme was well received by the community and contributed towards promoting health awareness and early eye care.

YMCA Madras – Vepery Branch, in association with ELM Fabricius Higher Secondary School, organised a Drug Awareness Program on 2nd September 2026 at ELM School. The program commenced with a prayer song and opening prayer led by Mr. Immanuel, Teacher. The welcome address was delivered by Mrs. Angeline, followed by the presidential address by Mr. J. Arulprakash, Headmaster, ELM School.

Mr. S. Edwin Abraham, Additional General Secretary, YMCA Madras, greeted the students and teachers and shared a few real-life incidents to help the students understand the harmful effects and consequences of drug abuse. The guest speaker, Mr. Churchill Joseph, Member, Juvenile Justice Board, addressed the students on the serious consequences of drug consumption and the importance of taking preventive measures. He emphasised the need to choose good friends and maintain a positive circle of influence. He also encouraged the students to support and guide those struggling with addiction towards appropriate help and rehabilitation.

The guest speaker, Mr. Churchill Joseph, and Mr. J. Arulprakash, Headmaster, ELM School, were felicitated by Mr. S. Ratan Raj, Chairman – YMCA Vepery Branch, in recognition of their contribution to the program. The program concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. A. Alwinraja, Secretary, YMCA Madras.

YMCA Madras, Sathuma Nagar Branch and Don Bosco Anbu Illam Celebrated Onam celebration on 27/8/2026, 10 a.m. at the branch. The Programme commenced with Tamil Thai vazhthu. Dr. G.R. Alfred Rupak, Chairman welcomed the gathering. Around 45 Tailoring students participated in the games and talent show that were conducted on the special occasion. Fr. Andrew Stephen,Director-Don Bosco Anbu Illam, graced the occasion with his presence and motivated the students. The Programme concluded with the word of prayer by Fr. Andrew Stephen. The Fellowship Lunch was served to the gathering.

YMCA Madras, Sathuma Nagar Branch organised a Children’s Athletics Meet on 9th August 2026 at 5:20 p.m. at Babu Jagjeevan Ram Sports Complex.
The programme began with prayer by Ps. John Sumaker, King of Kings.
Mr. P.S. Selwyn Devadoss, Vice-President – Programmes & Activities, was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the meet.
The children participated enthusiastically in 100m, 200m, 400m and Long Jump events. The Medals & Certificates were distributed to the winners.
The meet was successfully conducted, encouraging sportsmanship, fitness and active participation among the children.
