Last night, the hashtag Banquet was not just about networking; it was a glimpse into the future of global research and Indian innovation.

We started with a warm Welcome Address by 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗔𝗻𝗮 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗮 (𝗩𝗣 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗜𝗘𝗘𝗘 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆). As a leader in the field and Professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, she set the perfect tone for an evening of collaboration, highlighting the global strength of our community.

𝗞𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: We were privileged to hear from Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), India. His talk on "AI For Science and Engineering & ANRF Vision" was a masterclass on the intersection of Deep Science and Deep Tech.

We were honored to host Dr. Ranjita Bhagwan, Principal Engineer at Google India, for our third and final keynote address at .

Dr. Bhagwan, an ACM Distinguished Member and INAE Fellow, took the stage to discuss "𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 Google's 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸." Managing a network that supports billions of users across services like Search, YouTube, Maps, and Gemini, as well as the critical infrastructure for Google Cloud Platform, requires immense scale and precision.

From undergraduate students to doctoral researchers, the session was a vibrant showcase of early-stage work and innovative problem-solving. It was inspiring to see students presenting confidently and receiving valuable feedback from our panel of expert reviewers.

🎤 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁: We kicked off with a masterclass by Prof. Ayon Chakraborty (Indian Institute of Technology, Madras) titled “Your First (Good) Paper: From Concept to Camera-Ready.” Prof. Chakraborty shared invaluable insights on bridging the gap between a raw idea and a top-tier publication, essential advice for every young researcher in the room.

💡 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲: The technical presentations covered a breathtaking range of topics, proving that the next generation is ready to tackle the world's biggest challenges:
- Security & Resilience: Vulnerabilities in Multi-Robot Systems & Federated Graph Learning for IoT.
- AI & Health: Crop disease detection & Cardiac arrest prediction.
- Next-Gen Networks: AI-Native diagnostics, Kubernetes optimization, and 5GC profiling.
- Future Tech: Quantum simulation bottlenecks and Evolutionary routing frameworks.

Day 2 of the main conference is officially underway, and we kicked it off with a deep dive into the infrastructure that powers the AI revolution.

Prof. Stefano Salsano (University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy) took the stage to present "𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗜: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀."

While the world focuses on Large Language Models, Prof. Salsano focused on the "AI Fabric", the critical data center infrastructure required to connect tens or hundreds of GPUs with massive 400G or 200G links.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙍𝙫6 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣: The core of the talk analyzed the application of Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6) to AI fabrics, comparing it against state-of-the-art solutions to demonstrate how we can build more efficient, scalable networks for AI workloads.

We just concluded our 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗞𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 of the 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, and it was a masterclass in algorithmic efficiency delivered by Prof. Alexandre Proutière from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden.

𝗧𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰: Statistical and Computational Trade-offs in Network Stochastic Optimization

Prof. Proutière took the stage to address one of the most challenging aspects of modern networking: solving combinatorial online network optimization problems.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀:

𝘽𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙘𝙩: He explored the critical trade-offs between sample complexity and regret, introducing a learning algorithm that manages to be both statistically optimal and computationally efficient (running in polynomial time).

𝙁𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙨: We saw specialized algorithms designed for scenarios where network-wide utility is modeled as a factor graph.

𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙡-𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩: Moving beyond theory, Prof. Proutiere demonstrated the power of these methods through real-world applications, specifically in optimizing antenna tilt coordination for radio communication networks.

The 18th International Conference on Communication Systems & Networks has officially begun at Sigma Hall!

We began the day by hearing from our distinguished leadership team, comprising General Co-Chairs Dinesh Rajan, Carla Fabiana Chiasserini, and Ranveer Chandra, as well as our TPC Co-Chairs Parimal Parag, Abhinav Kumar, and Giovanni Giambene.

The Steering Committee Co-Chairs (Uday Desai, Giridhar Mandyam, Rajeev Shorey, G. Venkatesh) took us on a journey through the legacy of COMSNETS, celebrating 18 years of excellence in networking research.
